Lakeville South Beats Rosemount in Senior Legion Play

Hot bats and good pitching led to a win for the Cougars.

The Lakeville South Cougars beat Rosemount, 7-3, on Tuesday evening in Senior Legion baseball league play at Lakeville South High School.

Cougar bats were hot throughout the game, and Lakeville South pitcher Nate Gelle threw a strong game to get the win.

“Gelle pitched lights out,” Lakeville South Head Coach Scott Howard said. “That’s what we were looking for.”

As the game started, it looked as though Rosemount was going to have a good game of offense. They scored their first run off of a sacrifice fly to take an early 1-0 lead after the first inning.

The Cougars would respond, though. In the next couple innings left fielder Will Lundquist would bat in two runs, and center fielder Garrett Delich hit a double to score two more runs for the Cougars to lead after four innings, 4-1.

Lakeville South would then extend their lead to six runs, 7-1, in the fifth inning after Rosemount mishandled a fly ball.

Then, in the seventh inning, Rosemount’s bats came alive once more as shortstop Lucas Haase and first baseman John Bishop each drove in a run, but it was too little too late as the Cougars were able to squash the late Rosemount rally.

The Cougars take on Northfield next in Dundas on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

They face cross-town rival, Lakeville North, on Thursday in Elko at 5 p.m.
