Hey, Reece Lamppa here! You must want to know a little bit about me, so here it is.
I’m a 2011 graduate from the University of Minnesota’s school of journalism and mass communication. While at the university, I learned under some of the biggest journalists in Minnesota including former CEO and Publisher of the Star Tribune Keith Moyer, award-winning journalist and author John Rosengren, and Pulitzer Prize winner Chris Ison.
I’ve written everything from courts, police, feature, and sports stories. I’ve also been a writer and blogger for Flatline magazine, which is a magazine about death/dying and how it’s viewed in society.
During my schooling, I’ve realized that journalism is rapidly changing, but the need for quality journalism will always be there. People still yearn to know what is going on in their communities, and want to be involved in the conversation about the issues that impact them.
That is why I believe the future is in the Internet as a news medium. There has never been a time in history like this, where news information is so readily accessible to anyone anywhere at any time. The glory days of print journalism may be behind us, but people are turning to mobile devices and other technologies to read the daily headlines. That's the reason I took the opportunity to get involved with Patch, and I hope you get involved in the conversation as well.
