Lakeville Man Acquitted of Felony Counts

A Dakota County jury on Friday found Richard Jule Geckler Sr., 69, not guilty of three counts of issuing dishonored checks. A fourth count was dismissed earlier.

A Dakota County jury has acquitted a Lakeville man of allegedly writing bad checks to former employees.

On Friday, Richard Jule Geckler Sr., 69, was found not guilty by the jury in Dakota County District Court of three counts of felony issuing dishonored checks.

A fourth count was dismissed on June 3.

Each count carried a maximum penalty of five years in jail and a $10,000 fine.

The trial was heard in front of Dakota County District Court Judge Karen Asphaug, according to court records.

Geckler owned Geckler Companies, Inc., a wholesale distributing company, based in Lakeville.

According to a criminal complaint, Geckler issued four payroll checks to employees in January and February 2010, all of which were returned for insufficient funds.

A criminal summons was issued in the case in July 2011, according to court records. Geckler pleaded not guilty in district court in January 2012.
