Holberg: "Many of you have contacted me this week about the idea of forcing small business child care providers to join a statewide union and pay dues."
Editor's note: The following is a newsletter from Lakeville's State House Representative Mary Liz Holberg, R-Lakeville. Most Popular Constituent Contact Issue This Week – Unionizing Child Care Providers Many of you have contacted me this week about the idea of forcing small business child care providers to join a statewide union and pay dues. House File 950, chief-authored by Rep. Michael Nelson (DFL-Brooklyn Park) and supported by AFSCME Council 5, provides a process for unionizing family childcare providers who serve families receiving subsidized child care assistance. This legislation is the latest in a seven-year push by AFSCME and their allies to unionize childcare providers. The most recent attempt occurred when Gov. Dayton attempted…

"Between e-mails and phone contacts I have heard from nearly 200 residents of my district."
Editor's note: The following is a newsletter from Lakeville's State House Representative Mary Liz Holberg, R-Lakeville. Most Popular Constituent Contact Issue This Week - Gun Control Bills This week, the Public Safety Committee took testimony on various gun control proposals. For three days, there have been hundreds of citizens in the building showing their strong opposition to the bills being considered. Citizens began arriving at 7 am to try to get into the hearings that began at 10 am. The hearing room was packed each day as well as multiple overflow rooms that were set up so that citizens could listen to the testimony. Between e-mails and phone contacts I have heard from nearly 200 residents of my district. They are overwhelmingly …

House Bill would expand access to quality, affordable health care to adults and children through Medicaid and would take effect in January 2014.
Editor's note: The following is a press release from Lakeville and Burnsville's State House Representative Will Morgan, (D-District 56B). Dear neighbors, Minnesotans who want sensible, bipartisan solutions to the problems facing our citizens should cheer the Minnesota House for putting House File 9 on the fast track to the governor’s desk. The bill would expand access to quality, affordable health care to adults and children through Medicaid and would take effect in January 2014. The best part of this bill is that it won’t cost the state a penny until 2017. The federal government will fund 100% of the proposed expansion through 2016. Beginning in 2017, a gradual phase down in the federal match occurs, ending in 90% federal funding of the …

Morgan is co-author of HF No. 1, a measure that would pay back what was borrowed from Minnesota's schools.
Editor's note: The following is a letter from Lakeville and Burnsville's State House Representative Will Morgan, (District 56B, D-Burnsville). Dear neighbors, On Tuesday, Jan. 8, I took the oath of office to serve as your state representative for the third time. It is an honor to work for our common interests at the Capitol, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to try to move Minnesota forward. Minnesotans have made it clear that they wanted to see expanded economic opportunities for our families and businesses. They wanted a balanced budget without tricks and gimmicks. We enter the session with a $1 billion deficit, and we owe our schools another $1 billion. Legislators must tackle this structural problem and stop kicking the…

"When there is a budget surplus, law prohibits Governor Dayton from vetoing repayments of K-12 funding as he did in the last session."
Editor's note: The following is a newsletter from Lakeville's State House Representative Mary Liz Holberg, R-Lakeville. The 2013 legislative session convened this week with a focus on the budget and school funding. I will be serving in my eighth term in the Minnesota House and am honored to be able to represent the families and businesses of Lakeville. Paying Back the School Shift Republican policies led to a state budget surplus in 2012 of $2.5 billion which was promptly used to pay back a large piece of what was borrowed from MN schools. Some of the surplus was used to refill a state budget reserve account. The remaining $1.6 billion in surplus funds paid off all of the short-term borrowing enacted last year. School districts in the …

I agree leave the Day Care providers alone. They work hard & just trying to make a living & then to impose Union dues on them, oh yes, that guarantees more Democratic dues to keep electing Democrates into office. Also, leave our 2nd Amendment alone & let's focus on the real problem Mental illness & citizens being alert & able to report suspicious activity without any backlash. Arm the schools as …   more ›
