Kline on Defensive in First Debate with Obermueller

The two sparred in an on-air debate hosted by MPR on Monday morning. It was the first and only debate in the Second Congressional District race.

Second Congressional District challenge Mike Obermueller (DFL) lobbed plenty of criticism at incumbent Rep. John Kline (R) during the first and only debate between the two candidates on Monday morning. Obermueller, who is seeking to unseat Kline in the newly competitive congressional district, called the five-term legislator part of a "broken system" during the hour-long debate, which was aired by MPR and moderated by host Kerri Miller. "John, you’ve voted 95 or 96 percent of the time with your party, that’s more partisan than Michele Bachmann," Obermueller said. “The system is hopelessly broken, the way you guys are running it now." Lakeville Reacts: Supreme Court Upholds Obamacare

Lakeville residents weigh in on the Supreme Court decision that President Obama's 'Affordable Health Care Act' does not violate the Constitution.

At the Starbucks Coffee on Kenwood Trail in Lakeville on Thursday, two men were huddled over a laptop computer, a game of cribbage set to the side. "This is an outrage," one man said to nobody in particular. "I'm moving to Canada," the other replied. "You can't. They have government-run health care, too," the first man said. "Well what the heck? Larry Kringle, the first man, and Jimmy Johnson, the second, were reacting to today's news that the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the Affordable Health Care Act that President Barack Obama signed into …

I am not sure how I misrepresented your position other then to point out the obvious that if it your cause taxes are okay and if it not they are bad. You talk as if i care one way or another about a party or a politician but you missed the point that taking money from one person at the point of a gun (or threat of imprisonment) is just plan wrong. PERIOD. Do not talk to me about paying for others…   more ›

POLL: Supreme Court Weighs Arguments Over 'Obamacare'

What do you think the Supreme Court should do with President Obama's controversial healthcare act? Uphold, or strike it as unconstitutional?

Today marks the final day of arguments before the Supreme Court of the United States will recess to weigh whether President Barack Obama's sweeping healthcare legislation from 2010 is constitutional. For three days, in front of the Supreme Court, lawyers for Obama and other supporters of the law have argued with attorneys from 26 states and other opponents over the whether "Obamacare" is constitutional—especially the individual mandate forcing Americans to get health coverage. In the past, U.S. Congressman John Kline, (R-Second District) of Lakeville, has said the law should be repealed. It's far too early to say if the Affordable Health Care Act, as it's officially called, will be deemed unconstitutional, but Lakeville Patch wants to know…

The poll has no option for eliminating the individual mandate and keeping the rest of the law. That leaves the Vermont option available for states if the health insurance companies refuse to play ball. The individual mandate is entirely based upon the problem of people living without health insurance until they become sick. That's problem doesn't exist if everyone pays into a network of care that…   more ›
