House Bill would expand access to quality, affordable health care to adults and children through Medicaid and would take effect in January 2014.
Editor's note: The following is a press release from Lakeville and Burnsville's State House Representative Will Morgan, (D-District 56B). Dear neighbors, Minnesotans who want sensible, bipartisan solutions to the problems facing our citizens should cheer the Minnesota House for putting House File 9 on the fast track to the governor’s desk. The bill would expand access to quality, affordable health care to adults and children through Medicaid and would take effect in January 2014. The best part of this bill is that it won’t cost the state a penny until 2017. The federal government will fund 100% of the proposed expansion through 2016. Beginning in 2017, a gradual phase down in the federal match occurs, ending in 90% federal funding of the …

Morgan is co-author of HF No. 1, a measure that would pay back what was borrowed from Minnesota's schools.
Editor's note: The following is a letter from Lakeville and Burnsville's State House Representative Will Morgan, (District 56B, D-Burnsville). Dear neighbors, On Tuesday, Jan. 8, I took the oath of office to serve as your state representative for the third time. It is an honor to work for our common interests at the Capitol, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to try to move Minnesota forward. Minnesotans have made it clear that they wanted to see expanded economic opportunities for our families and businesses. They wanted a balanced budget without tricks and gimmicks. We enter the session with a $1 billion deficit, and we owe our schools another $1 billion. Legislators must tackle this structural problem and stop kicking the…

To the editor, I want to thank the voters of Burnsville and Lakeville for placing your trust in me to represent you in the Minnesota House of Representatives starting in January. I’m both humbled and honored to have the chance to serve this community once again. In the thousands of conversations I had at doors since last May I heard you and I will be your voice in our state legislature. I heard the voice of small business owners who want to eliminate wasteful spending and redundant regulations and cut through the red-tape so they can accelerate our economic recovery. I heard the voice of parents, grandparents and other concerned citizens who want to improve our schools, reduce class sizes and close the achievement gap. Most of all I heard …

Burnsville DFLer Will Morgan won the seat in a tight race against Lakeville Republican Roz Peterson.
It looks like southern Burnsville and northern Lakeville will be represented by DFLer Will Morgan, who came out ahead of Republican opponent Roz Peterson by less than one full percentage point. According to the Minnesota Secretary of State. Peterson took 10,515 votes (49.5 percent) while Morgan tallied just 170 more at 10,685 votes (50.3 percent). If he has the seat in new House District 56B in his grasp, Morgan has made a comeback from defeat in 2010, when the two-time house rep was unseated by Republican Pam Myhra. In that contest, Myhra won 50 percent to 46.5 percent. The 2012 race pitted Peterson, a five-year veteran of the Lakeville School Board, against Morgan, a teacher at Burnsville High School. To the editor, Will Morgan will work hard to forge compromise and common ground in the Minnesota Legislature as State Representative in District 56B. He prefers to work quietly behind the scenes and forge consensus, rather than acting as a "flame thrower." Mr. Morgan, as he is known to his students, is a well respected science teacher and coach at Burnsville High School. He is supported by many former students and fellow faculty. As a scientist, Will looks at numbers, facts and data to help make decisions. We need more of this at the State Legislature. Working on school district negotiating committees, Will helped craft the Independent School District 191's performance pay system called "Pro-Pay." This plan was called a "Model" by the …

To the editor, Do not let Will Morgan fool you; he wants to raise our taxes. Before he left office, he left no stone unturned searching for things to tax. He voted to take away the mortgage interest deduction, Morgan even voted for not allowing us to deduct our property taxes from our income taxes. He voted to increase taxes on each and every home purchased in Dakota County—right in the middle of the housing crisis. But he didn't stop there. He also voted to tax music downloads and home heating fuel purchased during the winter months. I cannot afford to have Will Morgan back in the legislature—his record speaks for itself. Letter writer: Will Morgan is a teacher at Burnsville High School and has an outstanding record protecting our schools at the state legislature.

To the editor: Education is crucial to a healthy economy. As such, it's crucial we have some one with first-hand experience representing our kids at the Capitol. Will Morgan's experience comes two fold: not only has he taught Physics for the past 20 years at Burnsville High School, but he also has an outstanding record protecting our schools at the state legislature. Who better to advocate the interests of our children's education than Will? As a teacher he sees first hand the effects of education cuts, like the more than $2 billion borrowed from schools by the current legislature. And after teaching for 20 years he's survived the ridiculous unfunded big government mandates (like the Profiles of Learning and No Child Left Behind) that do …

The Lakeville School Board member was selected over Terry McCall of Burnsville on Thursday during the district’s second endorsing convention.
The GOP endorsement for Minnesota House District 56B goes to Roz Peterson. A Lakeville School Board member, Peterson came out ahead of Terry McCall of Burnsville in voting at the district’s second endorsing convention Thursday night in Burnsville. Peterson and McCall were deadlocked in balloting for the endorsement during the district’s first convention in March, thus forcing the second round. According to SunThisweek.com, Peterson received the necessary 68 votes—60 percent of delegates—for endorsement at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, a couple hours after the second convention began. McCall then gave Peterson his personal endorsement. The newly created District 56B, formed as result of the state’s recent redistricting process, includes a large…
