While flattered to be named as a bidder, Loeffler Construction President and Co-Owner Doug Loeffler says the Lakeville firm hopes to be part of the new Minnesota Vikings stadium project only as a partner.
Loeffler Construction is growing—no doubt about that. And the Lakeville-based firm's President and Co-Owner Doug Loeffler acknowledges building the Minnesota Vikings Stadium would be pretty great. But recent media reports—including one found here on Lakeville Patch (published Jan. 15)—are a bit inaccurate, he said. "It's flattering—the reports, but we cannot build it, or portray to build it alone," Loeffler said. "What we are doing ... we’re teamed with Gilbane Building Companies out of Rhode Island. They’re a very large firm that's built other stadiums, and they reached out to us and asked to be a local partner." Loefller said his firm would be supporting Gilbane, helping them learn the marketplace and help work with the subcontractor …

Loeffler Construction of Lakeville is one of six contenders vying for the $975 million stadium deal.
A Lakeville construction company could become the lead contractor on the "People's Stadium," a controversial new venue for the Vikings in downtown Minneapolis. Lakeville's Loeffler Construction is one of six firms shortlisted for the project, which is expected to run from $675 million to $975 million. Two other Twin Cities companies are contending for the contract, Kraus-Anderson and Mortenson Construction. The project has also attracted three other firms from out of state: Gilbane Building Companies of Rhode Island, Skanska of New Jersey and Hunt Construction of Arizona. The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority released the list on Friday. The MSFA's final selection will be announced on Feb. 1. Construction of the stadium is expected to…

The 2012 legislative session starts at noon today, and Lakeville's representatives hope to avoid the stalemate that ended last year's session with a budget breakdown and three-week shutdown.
Minnesota's legislative leaders head back to work today at the State Capitol, with gavels expected to fall in both the House and Senate chambers at noon to start the 2012 legislative session. Job creation, a new Minnesota Vikings stadium, the February fiscal forecast, and a number of capital projects to be included in the "bonding bill", are expected to be the main topics of debate this year. In a preview of the session, Patch spoke to Lakeville's three legislators about their priorities, thoughts, and areas of concern for this year's session: The Vikings stadium debate grew more heated on Jan. 24 when Gov. Mark Dayton, a stadium supporter, told the Vikings that the only viable site for a new stadium was where the Metrodome now sits. That …

Dave Thompson said Vikings are an asset, but thinks approving a stadium sends a bad message.
Lakeville's State Sen. Dave Thompson (R-District 36) said Wednesday that he will not be voting to support a new Vikings stadium. He also had some harsh words for his Republican colleagues who authored the bill which would have the state and Minnesotans contribute as much as $300 million through a series of new taxes and fees, and revenue from the stadium's naming rights. “I acknowledge the Minnesota Vikings are a state asset. However, Republicans campaigned on the message of sensible government, low taxes and decreased regulation," Thompson said in a statement. "The voters sent us a clear message." Thompson said as legislators, he and those in the House and Senate are in the business of making tough decisions. "The focus of the legislature…
