The Panthers dominated Eden Prairie 58-41 with a furious second half, advancing to Saturday's Class AAAA title game.
Lakeville North's boys basketball team is one win away from a state championship, a win that would be the first in the city's history. The Panthers (30-1) beat Eden Prairie (23-8) in a semifinal match-up on Thursday that was scarier than the 58-41 score indicated. And now North is set to make some local history when it takes on what could be a depleted Osseo team that needed three overtimes to get past Hopkins 87-86, the three-time defending state champions, and No. 1 team in the state. For Lakeville North, the semifinal game was a story of two halves. Eden Prairie came out hot in the first half, and the Panthers found themselves down 27-13 with just over two minutes to go in the first half. But the momentum shifted and North outscored the…

The Royals used a monster second half to drub the Panthers 51-29 in the Class AAAA tilt at the Target Center. And North looked strong early in the second half, briefly tying the game at 17 before Hopkins went on a huge 34-12 run to close out the game. Lakeville North's season comes to an end while Hopkins moves on the the semifinals to play the winner of the St. Michael Albertville and Eastview game at 6 p.m. tomorrow night.

The third straight trip to the Target Center for the Panthers isn't going to be easy as they draw the No. 1 team in the state in the quarterfinals.
Lakeville North's girls basketball team is hoping to pull off what the Lakeville South boys hockey team accomplished last week at state: to shock the world. At 10 a.m. on Wednesday, the Section 1AAAA champion Lakeville North girls basketball team (21-8) will play Hopkins (27-1), the defending state champions who are also the No. 1 team in the state. While it's a tough draw, they have inspiration to lead them on a bid for the upset. Last week, the Cougar hockey team was given about as much chance to beat No. 1 Duluth East in the state quarterfinals as a snowman had to survive through June. But in what amounted to an historic upset, Lakeville South won. Lakeville North, which won the state title just three seasons ago, and finished third …

North upended South in last year's Section 1AA final. Tonight's winner goes to state.
Lakeville's two varsity boys hockey teams will meet again tonight, but this time it's for the Section 1AA crown and a trip to the State Boys High School Hockey Tournament. No. 1 Lakeville South (19-8-0) will face No. 2 Lakeville North (14-13-0) at 7 p.m. at the Rochester Recreation Center. It's the third time the two teams will meet, with North taking the first match-up on Jan. 7 by a score of 4-3, and South winning the second game 4-2 on Feb. 9. South, which has Mr. Hockey finalist, and University of Minnesota recruit, Justin Kloos, has been ranked in the Top 10 of Minnesota's best teams all season, and comes into the game as the favorite. But they were the favorite last year, too, before North stunned the Cougars in triple overtime by a …

The Lakeville North girls hockey team falls to Minnetonka 2-1 in overtime
Leading 1-0 and heading into the final minute of play, Lakeville North seemed to be able to handle the pressure of fending off Minnetonka's relentless offensive attack, even as the Skippers had an extra attacker. But with 21 seconds left to play, Sidney Morin scored for Minnetonka, sending the game into overtime. In overtime, the noticeably exhausted teams traded offensive opportunities, until Minnetonka scored 6:21 into the extra period. Lakeville North will face Edina in the third place game tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
