The number of returning starters and speed at the skill positions will be some of Lakeville North’s biggest strengths going into another football season in the South Suburban Conference.
This year, Lakeville North Football Head Coach Brian Vossen had his first opportunity to lead offseason training. More than 75 players spent their summer in the weight room getting bigger, stronger and faster. They spent their offseason building on one of their team strengths: their speed. And according to Vossen, the squad has around 20 players that run the 40-yard dash under 4.8 seconds. The speed at their skilled positions will be a big asset when contending in the very competitive South Suburban Conference. The team also has some experience under its belt, with seven starters returning on defense—including the whole starting linebacker core—and five returning on offense. One player that has both speed and experience is returning …

It’s going to be a new brand of baseball this year in the South Suburban Conference, but it’s likely going to be just as competitive as the Lake Conference used to be. How do you keep track of it all? Keep it easy this way: Eden Prairie, Chaska and Chanhassen are out. Prior Lake is in to fill out a 10-team conference. By season’s end, several of the teams in the South Suburban Conference could be ranked in the top-10. And they pretty much all get to face each other again with everything on the line in the Section 6AAA Playoffs. Burnsville beat Eastview for the Section 3AAA title last year, then lost to conference rival Eden Prairie in the Class AAA state title game. Lakeville South first year coach Al Iversen summed up the competition in …
