Police: Pregnant Dakota County Woman Slain by Husband

Roger Earl Holland is charged with two counts of second-degree murder for the death of his wife and unborn child, but Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom has vowed to bring the case before a grand jury.

A Dakota County man stands accused of strangling his pregnant wife, killing her and her unborn child, before throwing her body down a flight of stairs in an effort to make her death appear accidental. Roger Earl Holland, 36, of Apple Valley currently faces two counts of second-degree murder, a charge that carries a maximum of 40 years in prison. However, Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom said today he will bring an indictment for first-degree murder before a grand jury. The victim—Margorie Ann Holland, 37—was from Faribault. FBI Report: Lakeville's Crime Stats Lowest Among Peer Cities in State

The FBI released the 2011 crime stats from across the country.

Last month, the FBI released 2011 crime statistics for reporting communities across America, including Lakeville. All told, Lakeville police reported zero violent crimes in 2011. (See table below.) There were three robberies, 15 aggrevated assaults, and 108 burglaries. That said, in each category, Lakeville saw fewer incidents than every similarly sized citie in the state, such as Apple Valley, Blaine, Burnsville, Coon Rapids, Eagan, Eden Prairie, Maple Grove, Minnetonka, Plymouth and Woodbury. Nationwide, the estimated number of violent crimes reported in 2011—1,203,564—was down form 2010, the fifth such year of reduced violent crimes across America. Lakeville Police to Attend Slain Officer Tom Decker's Funeral

The funeral of Cold Spring Police Officer Tom Decker, who was shot and killed in the line of duty last week, will start at 11 a.m. at St. John's Abbey and University Church in Collegeville.

Lakeville Police Chief Thomas Vonof said he and 12-14 other Lakeville Police Officers will be at today's funeral for Tom Decker, a Cold Spring police officer who was gunned down in the line of duty last week. It's estimated that 2,500 police officers from across the state will be on hand to pay their respects and offer support. The funeral for Officer Decker begins at 11 a.m. at St. John's Abbey and University Church in Collegeville, MN. Burial is scheduled for 1 p.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery in Luxemburg, MN. According to the Star Tribune, the program for the Decker's mass of Christian burial notes that "Thomas Edward Decker was born Nov. 2, 1981, baptized Nov. 15, 1981, and 'entered eternal life' on Nov. 29, 2012."
