Champagne Guide: Ring in the 2013 New Year with Some Bubbly

New Year's Eve is champagne's time to shine.

Lakeville residents will soon be ringing in the New Year, a time when champagnes and sparkling wines rule the drink menu. Choices of these great sparklers can be overwhelming, so let's review which ones may be best for your New Year's Eve dinner or celebration.  First: where can you find some New Year's bubbly in Lakeville? There are three liquor stores in Lakeville: Generally speaking, people refer to all sparkling wines as champagne. Actually, the only wines that can be called champagne are the ones that are produced in the Champagne region of France, hence the name.  Wines produced outside this region of France are called by different names. The primary grapes used to produce champagne are Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. There…

Last Call for Miller Lite in Lakeville? MillerCoors Becomes Casualty of Shutdown

MillerCoors has been directed by the State of Minnesota to come up with a plan to pull all of its 39 beer brands, including Miller Lite, Coors Light and Blue Moon, from store shelves and restaurants in the next few days.

Thanks to the state shutdown, in a matter of days, the Silver Bullet may not be allowed to make any more beer runs to Lakeville’s bars, restaurants and liquor stores. Doug Neville, a spokesman for the Minnesota Department of Public Safety which over sees state liquor regulation, told the Star Tribune that MillerCoors, the company that brews and distributes products like Coors Light, Miller Lite and Blue Moon, failed to properly renew their brand label registration with the state before the shutdown began on July 1. Brenda Visnovec, the director of Lakeville’s municipal liquor operations says she received word yesterday that the company will have to remove all of its 39 beer products from shelves and bars within a matter of days, including …
