Editor's note: The following is a press release from the Lakeville Area Public School District. The Lakeville North Mock Trial team finished third at the 2013 State Tournament. The field of mock trial teams began year with over 150 teams representing 12 regions. Teams completed an invitational season and then went through five weeks of region competition. Lakeville North won the region and advanced to state. The region final trial was against the Breck School who are the three time defending state champions. At the state tournament Lakeville North beat Bemidji and Wayzata. There was a split decision with Nova Classical Academy who went on to win.

Lakeville North's boys basketball team lost to Park Center 74-72 in the quarterfinals of the State Boys High School Basketball Tournament.
A year after losing at the buzzer in the Class 4A Championship game, Lakeville North's boys basketball team lost at the buzzer again at state. This time the Panthers were felled by the Park Center Pirates—74-72—in a thrilling quarterfinal game at this year's State Boys High School Basketball Tournament. The Panthers were down 16 points at halftime and at one time trailed by 19, but made a furious charge to tie the game at the end of regulation of the game at Target Center. Overtime was a back and forth affair, that ended with Park Center's Isaac Matthews tipped in Quinton Hooker's miss in the final seconds of overtime. North's JP Macura had 26 points. Park Center's Hooker had a game-high 29 points.

The heavily favored Edina Hornets dominated Lakeville North, defeating the Panthers 9-3 int he quarterfinals of the State Boys High School Hockey Tournament.
Lakeville North's boys hockey team was a huge underdog going into its quarterfinal game Thursday versus Edina at the State Boys High School Hockey Tournament. Tuns out the "experts" may have been right. The No. 3 seeded Edina Hornets beat up Lakeville North, winning 9-3 in the state quarterfinals on Thursday. The lone bright spot was Nick Poehling, who had a hat trick in the game. Lakeville North's boys hockey team is the only team at state with a losing record, coming in at 11-16-1, while the Hornets were a robust 22-6-0. North was hoping to capture the same magic Lakeville South had last year when the Cougars scored a surprising upset, defeating the No. 1 team in the state in Duluth East. The Panthers had no such luck, going down 2-0 …
The Panthers are one of many underdogs taking center ice at this week’s State AA Boys’ Hockey Tournament in St. Paul.
They’ve already had what some consider the run of the postseason, putting together a run to the Section Championship. Now, Lakeville North and the Panther faithful are hoping to score a couple more upsets en route to the State of Hockey’s biggest title. The Panthers, unranked in the final Let’s Play Hockey poll, seek their first title in their fourth appearance, their most recent two years ago. In four games during the regular season against tournament qualifiers, the Panthers were able to manage a 2-2 tie against Eastview of Apple Valley, but also lost 6-2 to Eastview, lost 7-0 to Hill-Murray and lost 2-0 to Duluth East. North may have had a rough season record-wise, and they have a 0-3-1 record versus this year's other state qualifying teams, losing to Eastview, Duluth East and Hill Murray. UPDATED (8:57 p.m.) The Lakeville North boys hockey team is headed back to State. North's boys hockey team beat Lakeville South 6-3 on Thursday night in the Section 1AA finals to earn its second section title in three years. It's too soon to say who the Panthers will meet in the quarterfinals of the State Boys High School Hockey Tournament next Thursday, March 7 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The Panthers battled Minnetonka in a six OT marathon in the semifinals.
The Lakeville North girls hockey team made history—but not in a way they had hoped. The Panther's state title dreams were dashed in exhausting fashion early Saturday morning, losing to Minnetonka 4-3 in a game that lasted six overtimes—the longest game in state tournament history. It was the second straight year the Panthers were ousted by Minnetonka at state. The Panthers will now face Eden Prairie on Saturday, Feb. 23 in the third-place game.

No. 4 Lakeville North defeated No. 5 North Wright County 5-4 in overtime.
No. 4 Lakeville North is on to the semifinals of the Girls Class AA State High School Hockey Tournament. Christi Vetter scored the game winner in overtime to help the Panthers defeat North Wright County, 5-4 on Thursday night. The Panthers get a rematch a year in the making with Minnetonka at 8 p.m. on Friday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The winner goes to the Class AA final. Last year, Minnetonka beat North 2-1 in overtime in the state semifinals.

The No. 4 Lakeville North's girls hockey team opens this year's Class AA State Tournament against No. 5 North Wright County at 8 p.m. tonight at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. This is the second consecutive trip to state for the Panthers, and they have represented Section 1AA in three of the past four years. The team is holding a “send-off” from Lakeville Ames Arena at 1 p.m today. The students will board the bus and be escorted to the city limits by Lakeville Fire and Police Departments.

Both of Lakeville's high schools will be creating new and different "pathways of academic concentration" focusing on engineering and business.
Big classroom changes are coming to Lakeville's two high schools. Lakeville North will adjust some of its classroom programming in order to create a "business academy pathway" while Lakeville South is set to pilot a new Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) academy, which will also offer a "pathway" of academic concentration. Lakeville's school board heard a report on the new classroom programming at its meeting on Dec. 11. A formal vote to approve the changes will happen at a future meeting.
