Prom night for Lakeville North and Lakeville South juniors and seniors is Saturday night. But, you don’t have to wait until then to post your prom-related photos here.
It’s nearly prom time in Lakeville. Lakeville North and Lakeville South high schools are conducting a joint prom Saturday night at the Crown Plaza Hotel in St. Paul. Lakeville North’s grand march is planned for 4 to 6 p.m. at the high school. Lakeville South’s grand march will be from 4 to 5:45 in South’s auditorium. The Lakeville prom could be described the glamour event of the year for students at both high schools, as well as their families. It's one long photo op, and Patch is the perfect place to share your pictures with the community. Two students from Lakeville North High School are among the winners of $2,500 National Merit Scholarships released Wednesday, the organization announced. This year’s local winners are: The National Merit Scholarship Corporation selected the Lakeville students from among 15,000 finalists in the 2013 National Merit Program. The winners are judged to have the best combinations of “accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.” The number of winners in each state is proportional to the number of graduating seniors in the state. Run by students in collaboration with the Lakeville Chamber of Commerce and the Lakeville Business Education Committee, this job fair is bringing together a diverse range of local employers, all of whom seek to actively hire high school students. The team is looking to raise $6,000 to travel to St. Louis in late April.
A team of six Lakeville North High School students are looking to raise $6,000 to travel to St. Louis, Mo., and compete in the world championship FIRST Tech Challenge competition. The Lakeville team, called "Team Fish in the Boat," qualified for the world championship by winning the "Inspire Award" at the Wisconsin state tournament competition. In FIRST Tech challenges, student-designed robots are pitted against each other in races to complete simple tasks. “I’ve been with some of these kids for eight years,” the team's volunteer coach, Scott McDowell, told Sun Thisweek. “I believe in the program and the kids who are willing to put the time in. Robert Ertl, Lakeville North's activities director who faced scrutiny following a June DWI arrest, is stepping down to return to the classroom.
Robert Ertl, Lakeville North High School's activities director, has been a man under intense scrutiny since his July DWI arrest. Parents called for his ouster in December when he pleaded guilty to the DWI charge, despite Ertl having undergone rehab and working with district officials to keep his job. As first reported on Lakeville Patch, Ertl, 47, of Northfield, pleaded guilty Dec. 20 to gross-misdemeanor DWI. It was his second alcohol-related arrest since 2008. But on Feb. 26, Lakeville's School Board approved Ertl's resignation from his job as as activities director, with the plan to have him resume his teaching career as a social studies teacher. The athletic and activities director at Lakeville North High School has pleaded guilty to drunken driving after he was arrested with a blood-alcohol content of .13 percent. Robert Lorenz Ertl, 47, of Northfield, pleaded guilty Dec. 20 to gross-misdemeanor DWI. Dakota County District Judge Mary Theisen immediately sentenced him to one year in jail, stayed for two years, along with two years of supervised probation, 10 days of electronic home monitoring, $615 in fines and court fees and 240 hours of community service.
