FBI Report: Lakeville's Crime Stats Lowest Among Peer Cities in State

The FBI released the 2011 crime stats from across the country.

Last month, the FBI released 2011 crime statistics for reporting communities across America, including Lakeville. All told, Lakeville police reported zero violent crimes in 2011. (See table below.) There were three robberies, 15 aggrevated assaults, and 108 burglaries. That said, in each category, Lakeville saw fewer incidents than every similarly sized citie in the state, such as Apple Valley, Blaine, Burnsville, Coon Rapids, Eagan, Eden Prairie, Maple Grove, Minnetonka, Plymouth and Woodbury. Nationwide, the estimated number of violent crimes reported in 2011—1,203,564—was down form 2010, the fifth such year of reduced violent crimes across America. FBI: July 9 Last Day to Detect Secret Virus That Causes Internet Loss

The FBI offers test and fix to the "DNS changer" malware designed by hackers who have infected an estimated 277,000 computers globally.

Without a fix that is being put out by the FBI, it is possible that hundreds of thousands of computer users infected by the DNS Changer computer virus could lose access to the Internet on Monday, July 9. The Huffington Post reported in April that the problem began when international hackers—aka "Operation Ghost Click"—ran an online advertising scam to take control of infected computers. The FBI has set up a website that will check to see if a user's computer is using "rogue DNS" (DNS is shorthand for "domain name service"). There is also a document on the…

Two Men Who Attempted Lakeville Bank Robbery in September Still Being Hunted by FBI

The men are suspected of six successful and attempted bank robberies since August 2010, according to the FBI.

Last week, two masked men brandishing black semi-automatic handguns entered a bank in Plymouth and forced three employees to open the vault. The employees complied, and in less than 10 minutes, the two men fled with an undisclosed amount of money to a red Chevrolet Tahoe. The FBI now believes the two men are the same as two suspects who attempted to rob the TCF Bank location at 7435 179th Street West, in Lakeville, on Sept. 2 of last year. According to the FBI, these two suspects are tied to six successful and attempted robberies since last August. Both suspects have been described by witnesses and bank employees as black males who both displayed handguns. One man is described as being about 6 feet tall and weighing about 250 pounds. He …
