Residents have until Jan. 24 to apply to fill the open City Council seat; review will be held Jan. 29 with a final selection will be made in February.
Lakeville's 2013 City Council outlined its plan Monday to fill the vacant seat created by Matt Little's election to mayor. Anyone living in Lakeville can apply to fill Little's vacated council seat, per a resolution approved by the new council on Jan. 7. Applications will be accepted until Jan. 24. On Jan. 29, the council will review applications at a work session, and proceed to interviews if needed. A final replacement will be added to the council in mid-February. When then-Councilor Little was elected to mayor on Nov. 6 last year, his council seat—and the final two years of the term—were to become vacated when he took the oath of office for mayor. That happened on Jan. 7. The council is following the same mold it used last time a …

When mayor-elect Matt Little assumes his new role in January, his council seat will have to be filled.
Lakeville's City Council will soon have a hole to be filled. When City Councilor Matt Little takes the oath of office as the city's newest mayor in January, his current term on Lakeville's City Council will be vacated and in need of filling. (Read more about Matt Little.) According to a Sun Thisweek story, the council gnawed over the topic on Nov. 26 during a special session. Typically, the council will solicit applications from candidates interested in the vacant position, then review the applications and invite some candidates for interviews. The last time the council did this was in 2009 when then Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Committee member Kevin Miller was tapped to fill Wendy Wulff's seat on the council until Dec. 31, …

To the editor, Thank you to the voters of Lakeville for placing your trust in me to represent you on the Lakeville City Council. It is an honor and privelege to look forward to serving the community in this role beginning this January. In the hundreds of conversations I have had knocking on doors since last June, I have heard you. I had many conversations, and heard ideas and concerns. It was exciting that the thing I heard most frequently was that the City of Lakeville is a great place to live and work; and that the City Council must work to ensure that we maintain that status for years to come. The Council will soon begin a visioning process for the City, for which there will be a number of opportunities for input and participation. On …

To the editor, Doug Anderson is running for Lakeville City Council and I can see no better person suited to represent the citizens of Lakeville. I have known Doug and his wife Deb for over 20 years. Doug is well suited to bring a reasoned approach to the Lakeville City Council. He is a consensus builder and a team player. His chief financial officer background at Hamline University is a significant plus in that he knows what it takes to manage a large service organization with a diverse constituency. My husband serves with Doug on the Lakeville Finance Committee. While he has known Doug for a number of years, this was the first time they have had an opportunity to work together. He is very impressed with the knowledge, leadership, idea …

To the editor, I have had the privilege of knowing Doug and Deb Anderson for over 25 years now. Doug has always been involved in the community through both civic organizations and church. He most recently served as the chair of the financial advisory committee for the City of Lakeville; a role he is most comfortable in as he draws on his vast experience as the Chief Financial Officer for Hamline University. Putting together multi-million dollar budgets, over seeing the financial obligations of million dollar (plus) building projects, and anticipating the needs for the future are all things Doug faces daily in his business life. As the City of Lakeville is faced with doing more with less Doug is the right person to serve on our city …

To the editor, Doug Anderson has been my friend for 25 years. I've known him to be honest, caring, a great listener, level-headed and a person I can trust. He is courteous, ethical, offers advice, shares, and is always helpful. Doug has volunteered for many civic and church positions, and has been a leader in the community. He is now seeking to represent us on the Lakeville City Council, and I can think of no one better suited to do the job. He has my enthusiastic vote and I hope you will do the same. To the editor: Doug not only has a lifelong finance background, but has successfully run his own businesses and held many management roles that include his current position as CFO of Hamline University. As longtime Lakeville business owners and residents ourselves, it is important to us that our city is held to the same fiscally responsible standards that we need to practice to survive. After all, it is all Lakeville property owners that cover the blunders. Doug’s lifelong finance history, education and hands-on experience back up his campaign commitment and assure us of this. He truly possesses the credentials to stand behind his fiscally conservative platform. Additionally, Doug and Deb have raised both their children in Lakeville, …

I like to propose that we draft our long time past council member Laurie Rieb and nominate her to fill the vacant city council seat. As past council member and for a long time Mrs. Rieb was part of the constructive team which made our city as efficient and pleasant as it is. She demonstrated and has a history of sincere commitment and tireless service. Mrs. Rieb distinguished herself as a voice …   more ›
