Obermueller Raises More Than $250,000 in Race Against Lakeville's Kline

Former state legislator Mike Obermueller's campaign raised more than $250,000 in May and June.

Former state legislator Mike Obermueller raised $252,976 in two months for his campaign to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. John Kline, of Lakeville, this year, campaign officials announced Monday.     Obermueller said the support reflects a “deep frustration with the way Washington does business.” “Voters want representation that will strengthen the middle class,” Obermueller said. “I’m proud to have the support of so many people who want to end the gridlock in Washington.” Obermueller’s campaign has been placed on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s “Red to Blue” list, races that the DCCC believe are the top competitive challenger races in the country. He launched his campaign after the state DFL endorsed him in April to …

Obermueller's Campaign v. Kline Moves Higher on DCCC's Priority List

Minnesota's Second Congressional District race is among the 36 "most competitive" this year, according to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Mike Obermueller's already high-profile campaign against Congressman John Kline, (R-Second District), of Lakeville, got another bump Monday, courtesy of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.  Earlier in May, the DCCC added Obermueller to its Red to Blue Emerging Races program, but the committee announced this week that Obermueller has now earned a spot on the top tier of the committee's Red to Blue list. The promotion puts Obermueller among a group of 36 Congressional races nationwide that are considered to be the "most competitive." Obermueller is currently the only Minnesota candidate to have earned designation, according to a press release issued by his campaign on Monday. The DCCC's Red to Blue program pledges increased …

Kline Gets Second District GOP Endorsement, Expecting Fierce Race

Congressman John Kline, of Lakeville, received the unanimous endorsement of Second District Republicans on Saturday, and now expects a fierce fight in the newly redrawn district he's represented for a decade.

U.S. Congressman John Kline, (R-Second District) of Lakeville, received the unanimous endorsement from Republicans at the GOP convention at Shakopee Junior High School last week, and is now preparing for what could shape up to be his fiercest election battle in years as he seeks a sixth term. Thanks to February's court-panel redistricting, Kline faces a tougher road in a second district which now includes DFL-leaning portions of northern Dakota County, as well as southern Washington County, and doesn't include Republican strongholds such as Carver County. It's also attracted what some consider to be more viable Democratic challengers who would otherwise stay out of the race since the old district leaned so far to the Republican Party. …

John Kline, Second District Targeted by Democrats

Former Eagan Rep. Mike Obermueller has officially declared his intent to seek the DFL nomination for the Second Congressional District while the DNC has targeted John Kline as an incumbent to knock out of office.

The moment the new redistricting-altered maps were released in February, U.S. Congressman John Kline, (R-Second District) of Lakeville, became a target for Democrats. For years, Kline has been as safe a bet during election season as anyone, churning out double-digit election wins every cycle. But the new second district now includes DFL-leaning portions of northern Dakota County, as well as southern Washington County, and doesn't include Republican strongholds such as Carver County. And that has more seasoned Democrats looking at the race with more interest. The Star Tribune is reporting that former State Rep. Mike Obermueller has officially declared his intent to seek the DFL nomination for the Second Congressional District. Obermueller, …
