Former state legislator Mike Obermueller raised $252,976 in two months for his campaign to unseat Republican U.S. Rep. John Kline, of Lakeville, this year, campaign officials announced Monday. Obermueller said the support reflects a “deep frustration with the way Washington does business.” “Voters want representation that will strengthen the middle class,” Obermueller said. “I’m proud to have the support of so many people who want to end the gridlock in Washington.” Obermueller’s campaign has been placed on the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s “Red to Blue” list, races that the DCCC believe are the top competitive challenger races in the country. Minnesota's Second Congressional District race is among the 36 "most competitive" this year, according to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Mike Obermueller's already high-profile campaign against Congressman John Kline, (R-Second District), of Lakeville, got another bump Monday, courtesy of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Earlier in May, the DCCC added Obermueller to its Red to Blue Emerging Races program, but the committee announced this week that Obermueller has now earned a spot on the top tier of the committee's Red to Blue list. The promotion puts Obermueller among a group of 36 Congressional races nationwide that are considered to be the "most competitive." Congressman John Kline, of Lakeville, received the unanimous endorsement of Second District Republicans on Saturday, and now expects a fierce fight in the newly redrawn district he's represented for a decade.
U.S. Congressman John Kline, (R-Second District) of Lakeville, received the unanimous endorsement from Republicans at the GOP convention at Shakopee Junior High School last week, and is now preparing for what could shape up to be his fiercest election battle in years as he seeks a sixth term. Thanks to February's court-panel redistricting, Kline faces a tougher road in a second district which now includes DFL-leaning portions of northern Dakota County, as well as southern Washington County, and doesn't include Republican strongholds such as Carver County. For years, Kline has been as safe a bet during election season as anyone, churning out double-digit election wins every cycle.
