The heavily favored Edina Hornets dominated Lakeville North, defeating the Panthers 9-3 int he quarterfinals of the State Boys High School Hockey Tournament.
Lakeville North's boys hockey team was a huge underdog going into its quarterfinal game Thursday versus Edina at the State Boys High School Hockey Tournament. Tuns out the "experts" may have been right. The No. 3 seeded Edina Hornets beat up Lakeville North, winning 9-3 in the state quarterfinals on Thursday. The lone bright spot was Nick Poehling, who had a hat trick in the game. Lakeville North's boys hockey team is the only team at state with a losing record, coming in at 11-16-1, while the Hornets were a robust 22-6-0. North was hoping to capture the same magic Lakeville South had last year when the Cougars scored a surprising upset, defeating the No. 1 team in the state in Duluth East. The Panthers had no such luck, going down 2-0 …
The Panthers will face off versus Edina at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
Lakeville North's boys hockey team is the only team at state with a losing record. No matter—the Panthers drew the No. 3 seed Edina Hornets in Thursday's quarterfinal game, and not either of the top two teams: Duluth East or Hill Murray. The puck drops at 1 p.m. at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The two teams didn't meet during the regular season. North finished the year with a 11-16-1 record, and Edina finished 22-6-0. North may have had a rough season record-wise, and they have a 0-3-1 record versus this year's other state qualifying teams, losing to Eastview, Duluth East and Hill Murray. They did tie Eastview in their other matchup versus the conference foe.

Lakeville South's boys hockey team beat North Thursday night in the Section 1AA final.
Three is a charm. At least for Lakeville South's varsity boys hockey team it is. The Cougars dominated Lakeville North on Thursday night, winning the section 1AA title and a berth in the State Boys High School Hockey Tournament. Each of the past two seasons, North beat South with the trip to state on the line, but this year was different. Mr. Hockey finalist, and University of Minnesota recruit, Justin Kloos had a goal and three assists in the 7-1 victory at the Rochester Recreation Center. Charlie Hayes had the lone goal for the Panthers, which finish the season with a 14-14-0 record. Playing without goaltender Charlie Lindgren, the Panthers give up four goals in the second period
Lakeville North upset eighth-ranked Eagan 2-1 on Dec. 19 but the Wildcats returned the favor in a 5-2 victory over the Panthers on Saturday night. The Wildcats (13-4-2) dominated play from the opening face-off, earning a 19-7 shots-on-goal advantage in the first period. While Lakeville North (7-10-2) struggled to get much offense going in the period its defense rallied behind backup sophomore goaltender Jake Anderson. Anderson stood in for Panthers' goaltending phenom Charlie Lindgren who fractured his spine in an auto accident on Dec. 24. Lindgren saved 55 of 56 shots in the first meeting between the two teams. “I've been out three weeks now. We're not sure when I'll be back but I'm expecting to play next Saturday. We're hoping for good …
