McGuire Middle School opened in 1956 and at that time, was Lakeville Junior/Senior High School. It held grades 7 to…More 12 until Kenwood Trail Middle School was built in 1975. The building then became a middle school.
In 1982, the school was renamed Donald J. McGuire Middle School in honor of the retired, longtime superintendent.
Today, McGuire is Lakeville's largest middle school, home to 938 students in grades 6 to 8. The school is adjacent to JFK Elementary School and the district office.
When Lake Marion Elementary School opened in 1990 at the corner of Kenwood Trail and Dodd Boulevard, it was nearly in…More the middle of nowhere. Downtown Lakeville was more than a mile to the southeast and the development adjacent to the school, including Ames Ice Arena, Lakeville North High School and the commercial areas were not yet built.
Today, the school is surrounded by development and is home to 596 students in grades K - 5 and Principal John Braun has been the school's leader since it opened.
