Sports Convergence Could Mean Heavy Traffic Thursday for Vikings, Gophers, Twins Fans

Roads into and around Minneapolis could be clogged Thursday afternoon as fans head for games at the Metrodome, Target Field and TCF Bank Stadium.

If you're headed into Minneapolis for a sports event (or really any other reason) Thursday, the official word is to watch out for possible congestion related to three sporting events:

  • Twins vs. Royals at Target Field, 12:10 p.m.
  • Golden Gophers vs. UNLV at TCF Stadium, 6 p.m.
  • Vikings vs. Titans at Metrodome, 7 p.m.  (streets in the immediate area of the Metrodome are closed from 5 p.m. until two hours after the game ends)

  • Then there's state fair traffic to consider if your travels bring you in that direction.

Metro Transit advises taking a bus or parking in one of 2,800 free spaces along the METRO Blue Line to take light rail into Minneapolis.

The City of Minneapolis suggests you plan ahead by visiting the Minnesota Twins and Downtown Improvement District websites.
