Pan-O-Prog Day 4: John, Jerry Enggren Named Parade Grand Marshals

John and the late Jerry Enggren selected by Pan-O-Prog board as this year's parade Grand Marshals.

Lakeville is as much an historic town as it is a modern suburb. That unique history makes it easy for the  board to select parade Grand Marshals, says Sheri Stolp, president of this year's festival.

"There is so much history and dedication throughout the city of Lakeville where generations of families continue to live and prosper," she said. "We're fortunate to have so many deserving folks to chose from."

But this year, the board went to the city's roots, selecting John Enggren and his late brother, Jerry. John was one of the founding fathers of Pan-O-Prog.

"Both are and were long-time Lakeville residents who took over their father's grocery store business, Enggrens Foods," Stolp said. "Although Enggrens Grocery store is no longer gracing Holyoke, I would venture to say many residents and festival goers alike have fond memories of shopping in that cute little downtown grocery store."

Stolp said it was exciting for the board to name such upstanding members of the community for the honor.

"The store and both men were a fixtures in Lakeville—the store for 100 years," Stolp said. "Not only did the Enggrens run Enggrens Foods, they were owners of many properties in the downtown area, including multiple Tom Thumbs throughout the area."

Look for John as he leads the Grand Parade on Saturday, July 7 when it kicks off around 5:30 p.m.
