Sports Roundup: Panthers, Cougars Squeeze In Full Pre-Labor Day Schedule

In their final days before the start of school, sports squads from Lakeville North and South squeeze in a full spectrum on contests.

With the start of school looming right around the corner, student-athletes from Lakeville North and South got in a full schedule of contests before the Labor Day holiday last week.

South Cross-Country

The South girls and boys cross-country running teams swept the Dakota Classic in Eagan last Friday, winning both competitions by margins both wide and small.

Kaytlyn Larson led the Cougars girls squad to a 29-point win over the host Wildcats with a second-place individual finish of 11 minutes, 49.6 seconds. Also contributing to South's winning total of 35 points were: Annie Brekken (12:03.7) in fifth place, Megan Kilbride (12:16.6) in sixth, Erin Kilbride (12:34) in 10th and Megan Lubow (12:45) in 12th.

Mark Honetschlager paced the boys to victory with a fourth-place individual result in a time of 10:46.1. Chipping in for the Cougars' winning total of 60 points—14 better than runner-up Apple Valley—was Cash Rodamaker (11:06.9) in 10th, Jake Schneeman (11:07.4) in 11th, Wade Durham (11:11.9) in 15th and Noah Hanson (11:25.9) in 20th.

North Cross-Country

The North cross-country running teams competed in the Irish Invitational in Rosemount last Friday, with the girls taking fifth and the boys seventh.

Taylor Perkins led the girls with a fourth-place run of 12:08.6, with Emma Johnson taking ninth in 12:25.6. For the boys, Ben Saxton finished in sixth in a time of 10:18.5.

South Boys Soccer

The South boys soccer team concluded an undefeated pre-conference schedule with a 2-1 defeat of visiting Northfield last Thursday. Individual statistics were not made available. The Cougars enter South Suburban Conference play this week with a 3-0-1 record.

North Boys Soccer

A 3-1 win at Owatonna last Thursday also put the North boys soccer team's mark at 3-0-1 heading into South Suburban play this week. 

Tyler David and Toby Khounviseth were tied for the Panthers' scoring lead with two goals each through four games.

South Girls Soccer

Without giving up a goal, the South girls soccer team earned a pair of victories to close out last week, blanking Rochester Mayo (3-0) and Faribault (6-0) on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

The Cougars began this week with a 4-0-1 record. Individual statistics were not made available.

North Girls Soccer

The North girls soccer team remained without a single blemish after closing out its pre-conference schedule with a 2-0 win at Northfield last Thursday, followed by a 3-1 triumph at Owatonna the next day to head into this week at 4-0.

Gracia Bonesho and Simone Kolander lead the Panthers with three goals apiece through the first four games of the season, with goalkeeper Alexia Joyce having made nine saves on 10 shots faced thus far.

South Girls Swim/Dive

The South girls swimming and diving team lost its conference dual meet against Rosemount, 99-69, last Thursday. Individual statistics were made not available.

North Girls Swim/Dive

The North girls swimming and diving team defeated Bloomington Jefferson, 97-81, in a conference dual meet last Thursday. Individual statistics were not made available.

Results and statistics for matches involving the North and South girls tennis teams were not made available.
