Spring sports season begins in earnest in Lakeville as North, South squads begin campaigns.

The spring sports season began in earnest in Lakeville as several Panthers and Cougars squads opened their 2011 campaigns with mixed results.

North Girls Lacrosse: Panthers Open Spring With Two Wins

The Lakeville North girls lacrosse team opened the spring with a pair of victories agianst Rochester Mayo (15-4) and Wayzata (11-10) last Saturday and Wednesday, respectively.

Hannah Koloski leads the Panthers with nine goals through two games, as Nora Vee made 22 saves on 34 shots in the pair of victories.

North hosts state power Eden Prairie at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night.

South Softball: Cougars Split Opening Quartet

The Lakeville South softball team is 2-2 after its first four games, with wins over Bloomington Kennedy and Prior Lake sandwiched by losses against Eastview and Bloomington Jefferson.

Kendall Palfi leads the Panthers with a .500 batting average, while Lindsey Kamleitner pacing the team with nine runs batted in. Palfi has also stuck out 12 batters in 18 innings off the pitcher's rubber in claiming two victories.

South hosts Farmington at 7 p.m. Saturday night.

North Boys Lacrosse: Panthers 7, Rochester Century 5

The Lakeville North boys lacrosse team began its year with a 7-5 home defeat of Rochester Century on Tuesday.

Jack Hughes scored three goals for the Panthers, while Grant Wilson made nine saves.

North travels to Farmington for a 7:30 p.m. start on Thursday night.

South Baseball: Cougars 2-1 To Start The Spring

A 12-7 defeat of visiting Bloomington Jefferson on Wednesday improved the Lakeville South baseball team to 2-1 on the season.

After opening the year with a 7-1 loss to Eastview last Thursday, the Panthers earned victory No. 1 in a 15-14 slugfest at Bloomington Kennedy on Tuesday.

Individual statistics were not available.

South heads up the road to take on Lakeville North next Monday at 4:15 p.m.

North Boys Tennis: Eastview 6, Panthers 1

The Lakeville North boys tennis team lost, 6-1, to South Suburban Conference rival Eastview on Tuesday. Individual results were not available.

Northh hosts Apple Valley at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Results were not available for the Lakeville South boys tennis and track/field team competitions earlier this week.
