Sports Roundup: North, South Netters Eliminated In Sectional Semifinals

The postseason came to an end for the majority of players from the Lakeville North and South girls tennis teams as both squads fell in the sectional playoffs on Tuesday.

Girls Tennis

and each had its team tennis season ended by squads from Rochester, as the Panthers were defeated 7-0 by Century and the Cougars were bested 6-1 by Mayo in the Section 1AA semifinals.

Individual statistics were not made available. Selected members of both teams will have a chance to earn a berth for themselves in the state tournament as the sectional individual playoffs begin on Thursday at the Rochester Athletic Club. Seedings and matchups are yet to be announced.

North Volleyball

The fifth-ranked North volleyball team finished second in its invitational tournament on Saturday, then topped Apple Valley 3-0 to improve to 20-4 overall and 6-2 in South Suburban Conference play.

Individual statistics were not made available. The Panthers play at Shakopee on Thursday, then close out the regular season at home against Chanhassen on Saturday and Rosemount on Wednesday, Oct. 19.

South Volleyball

The No. 2-ranked Lakeville South volleyball team won its 14th-straight match, topping Eastview 3-1 at home to improve to 23-1 overall and 7-1 in the South Suburban.

Individual statistics were not made available. The Cougars play in the Eastview Invitational this weekend, then close out the regular season at Eagan on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

South can earn a share of the conference championship with a win over the fourth-ranked Wildcats, who currently lead the South Suburban with an unblemished 8-0 circuit mark.

South Girls Swimming and Diving

The South girls swimming and diving team beat Apple Valley, 92-88, in a South Suburban dual on Tuesday. Individual statistics were not made available.

Scores and results for a North girls swim/dive meet on Tuesday were not reported.
