Sports Roundup: Lakeville North, South Soccer Squads Remain Unbeaten

Lakeville boys, girls teams remained perfect on the pitch through first week of season; defending state champion Panthers volleyball squad opens with a win.

Soccer squads from both and remained perfect on the pitch after the first week of the season as boys and girls squads from both ends of town piled up the wins and ties.

North Boys Soccer

Two wins and a tie over their first three games have successfully propelled the North boys soccer team into week two of the autumn.

The Panthers shut out Rochester Century, 2-0, away from home on Tuesday to improve to 2-0-1 heading into a 3 p.m. Friday game at Owatonna.

Tyler David leads North with one goal and one assist, with Nickeles Kerkinni and Toby Khounviseth accounting for the team's other two goals.

North Girls Soccer

A 7-0 win over visiting Rochester John Marshall on Tuesday improved the North girls soccer team to 2-0.

The Panthers spread around the scoring, with Breanna Sollie, Erica Elias, Gracia Bonesho, Simone Kolander, Taylor Brownrigg, Grace Mundt and Sarah Fisco each tallying one goal apiece, with Kolander logging three assists and Alexa Trakalo two assists.

North travels to Northfield for a 7 p.m. game on Thursday night.

South Girls Soccer

The South girls soccer team remained unbeaten with a 1-1 tie versus visiting Owatonna on Tuesday. 

Individual statistics were not available. The Cougars, now 2-0-1, play at Rochester Mayo at 7 p.m. Thursday.

South Boys Soccer

The South boys soccer team beat visiting Owatonna, 1-0, on Tuesday to improve to 2-0-1.

Individual statistics were not available. The Cougars host Northfield at 5 p.m. Thursday.

North Volleyball

The 2010 state champion North volleyball team, ranked No. 1 in Class AAA, opened its title defense with a three-game sweep at Visitation, the No. 3-ranked team in Class A, on Tuesday.

Individual statistics were not available; the Panthers won 25-17, 25-19, 25-22. North returns to its home court at 7 p.m. next Tuesday against Owatonna.

South Volleyball

For the first time in four matches, the fifth-ranked South volleyball team did not sweep its opponent—yet, the Cougars still claimed the overall win and improved to 4-0 by topping Chaska in four games (25-10, 25-12, 21-25, 25-22) on Tuesday.

Individual statistics were not available. South plays at Rosemount at 7 p.m. Thursday.

North Girls Tennis

The Lakeville North girls tennis team defeated Rochester John Marshall, 7-0, on Tuesday.

Individual statistics were not available. The Panthers host South at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

South Girls Tennis

The South girls tennis team lost 4-3 to Eastview on Wednesday.
