Sports Roundup: Cougars Football Thumps Apple Valley

Fourth-ranked Lakeville South improves to 3-0 on Friday night.

It was a grand Friday for the football and girls cross-country teams as both Cougars squads were victorious at in-town competitions.

South Football

Mitchell Leidner threw for three touchdowns, two to Matt Heller, as the South football team, ranked fourth in Class AAAAA, won 45-6 at home to improve to 3-0 this season.

Leidner and Drew Wacker also ran for one touchdown a piece in the victory, while the Cougars defense came up with an interception and three sacks on the night.

South Cross-Country

The South girls cross-country team highlighted the annual Apple Jack Invitational at Aronson park by claiming a victory in its 17-team, 4,000-meter race. 

Kaytlyn Larson and Annie Brekken led the Cougars by finishing in third and fifth overall with respective times of 14 minutes, 24 seconds and 14:47.7. Megan Kilbride (15:02.3) was 12th, Erin Kilbride (15:24.6) took 20th and Megan Lubow (15:27.4) was 22nd.

The South boys took fourth, led by a 17th-place run of 16:38.5 by Jake Schneeman on the 5,000-meter course.

North Cross-Country

The Lakeville North boys cross-country team finished fifth in the Apple Jack Invite, led by Jason Dawson's 21st-place run of 16:45.

Following up the boys, the Pathers girls runners took ninth as a team, paced by Emma Johnson's 13th-place finish of 15:07.4.

South Boys Soccer

A 2-1 loss to visiting Apple Valley on Tuesday dropped the South boys soccer team to 4-5-1 on the season. Individual statistics were not made available.

North Boys Soccer

Bloomington Kennedy dealt the North boys soccer team its first loss of the season, 2-1, on Tuesday, giving the Panthers a 7-1-2 mark this autumn. Individual statistics were not made available.

South Girls Soccer

The South girls soccer team knotted up Apple Valley in a scoreless tie on Tuesday to bring the Cougars' record to 6-3-2 this year. Individual statistics were not made available.

North Volleyball

Tuesday's 3-0 defeat of Bloomington Kennedy kept the top-ranked North volleyball team undefeated at 10-0 on the season. Individual statistics were not made available.

South Volleyball

Improving to 14-1 on the season was the fourth-ranked South volleyball team, as the Cougars went 4-0 on Saturday to win the Farmington Tournament before sweeping visiting Apple Valley in three games on Tuesday. Individual statistics were not made available.

North Girls Tennis

The North girls tennis team shut out Bloomington Kennedy, 7-0, on Tuesday. Individual statistics were not made available.

South Girls Tennis

The South girls tennis team defeated Bloomington Jefferson, 5-2, on Tuesday. Individual statistics were not made available.
