Sports Roundup: Busy Weekend For North, South Sports Teams

Cougars girls cross-country wins Bauman/Rovn Invitational, girls soccer upsets Eagan on Thursday; both local volleyball teams claim tournament titles on Saturday.

The  girls cross-country won the Bauman/Rovn Invitational, as the girls soccer squad upset then-No. 1 Eagan on Thursday to highlight the post-Labor Day schedlule late last week during a busy stretch for the local squads.

South Cross-Country

Led by three top-six finishes, the South girls cross-country team won the Bauman/Rovn Invitational at Gale Woods Farm in Minnetrista.

Kaytlyn Larkson finished second in a time of 15 minutes, 10.7 seconds, followed directly by Annie Brekken (15:13.7) in fourth and Megan Kilbride (15:17.8) in sixth; Megan Lubow (15:48.1) in 19th and Erin Kilbride (15:56.7) in 24th closed out the Cougars scoring.

The South boys cross-country team took seventh at the meet, led by Mark Honetschlager (17:07.2) in 23rd; Cash Rodamaker (17:30.5) took 32nd, followed by Jake Schneeman (17:37.9) in 36th, Wade Durham (17:39.8) in 38th and Noah Hanson (18:11.9) in 59th.

North Cross-Country

The North cross-country teams spent their Friday running in the Fairbault Invitational, with the girls claiming third and the boys taking sixth.

Emma Johnson came in third with a run of 15:11.5 to lead the Panthers girls, with Haley Eskierka (15:58.3) in 17th, Hannah Evers (16:10.6) in 24th, Amy Ferguson (16:22.0) in 32nd and Katie Martinek (16:24.9) in 34th.

Ben Saxton paced the boys with a 12th-place run of 16:40.4, followed by Spencer Castillo (17:07.7) in 25th, Corey Peterson (17:25.8) in 33rd, Jack Brenner (18:16.9) in 58th and Lewis Kunik (18:17.3) in 59th. 

South Girls Soccer

The Lakeville South girls soccer team upset Eagan, ranked No. 1 at the time, by a 1-0 score on its home field on Thursday to improve to 5-1-1 on the season. Individual statistics were not made available.

North Girls Soccer

A 2-1 defeat of Blake, the No. 2-ranked team in Class A, improved the North girls soccer team to 7-0 on the year.

The Panthers, ranked fifth in Class AA, are led by Simone Kolander and Erica Elias' five goal apiece thus far.

South Boys Soccer

The South boys soccer team lost 5-0 at Eagan last Thursday, then topped Chaska by a 2-1 count on Saturday to bring a 4-2-1 record into this week. Individual statistics were not made available.

North Boys Soccer

A 1-0 win over visiting Rosemount last Thursday gave the Norht boys soccer team a 4-0-2 record heading into a three-game week.

Tyler David scored the lone goal in the Irish win and leads the Panthers with three goals this season.

South Volleyball

The sixth-ranked South volleyball team won the Aerie Challenge in Apple Valley on Saturday, improving to 8-0 on the season with a defeat of Caledonia in the title match. Individual statistics were not made available.

North Volleyball

The top-ranked North volleyball team won the Southwest Minnesota Challenge in Marshall on Saturday, topping third-ranked Bloomington Jefferson in the championship match to improve to 7-0 on the autumn. Individual statistics were not made available.

Scores and results for the Lakeville North and South girls swim/dive teams scheduled appearance in the Minneapolis South Invitational on Friday were not available.

Results for the North and South girls tennis teams were not made available.
