South Boys Hoopsters Win At Prior Lake

Cougars remain unbeaten in South Suburban Conference play with 68-45 victory on Friday night.

The Lakeville South boys basketball team won its seventh game in a row and remained unbeaten in 2011 with a 68-45 victory at Prior Lake in a South Suburban Conference matchup on Friday night.

With forward Alex Richter leading the way en route to a game-high 21 points, the Cougars took a commanding 37-21 halftime lead, then continued to build on that edge in the final 18 minutes to win by nearly two dozen.

Forward Jon Christensen and guard Riley West recorded 15 and 10 points, respectively, as eight South players managed at least two points in the triumph.

The win kept the Cougars unblemished in all four of their South Suburban contests, a stretch that also includes wins over Rosemount, Apple Valley and Lakeville North.

South is now 8-2 overall this season and has not lost since a narrow 93-89 loss to Class AAAA's No. 1-ranked Hopkins on Dec. 14. The Cougars other setback came in the season opener, 61-60, against St. Paul Johnson — the No. 2 ranked team in Class AAA — on Dec. 3.

Next up for the Cougars is a back-to-back set against the Bloomington contingent of the South Suburban as South travels to Jefferson on Tuesday night before hosting Kennedy Friday night.

Results were not currently available for Friday night's girls basketball game that also pitted Lakeville South against Prior Lake.
