Off to State: Lakeville North Routs Roseville, Heads to Metrodome

Lakeville North dominated Roseville, winning 42-0. It's also totally bananas what the Class 6A State bracket will look like.

UPDATE

Lakeville North's next game: The Metrodome.

The Panthers qualified for a berth in the 2012 Class 6A State Tournament with a decisive win at home Friday night over Roseville, beating the Raiders 42-0.

North, now 9-1, will face a yet to be determined opponent next Thursday or Friday.

In something that can only be historic: of the eight teams headed to State, four come from the South Suburban Conference as Section 3 representatives. Prior Lake, Rosemount, and Eastview, along with Lakeville North, all beat their Section 4 opponents on Friday night—Rosemount and Eastview in upsets.

But if that wasn't silly enough, all of the Section 6 teams—Wayzata, Edina, Minnetonka and Eden Prairie—beat their Section 5 opponents. All four teams are members of the Lake Conference.

So of the eight teams going to State in Class 6A, only two sections and two conferences are represented.

Original post from 1:50 p.m. on Nov. 2.

Lakeville North's 8-1 football team hosts the Roseville Raiders (4-5) at 7 p.m. tonight in the second round of section play.

The two teams aren't very familiar with each other and comes as a result of a Minnesota State High School League shake-up from when it created the new Class 6A this season for the 32 most populous schools in the state.

North is the No. 2 seed in Section 3AAAAAA, and Roseville is the No. 5 seed in Section 4AAAAAA.

If North wins, the Panthers will host a semi-final game next week against a foe yet to be determined.

Across Class 6A, besides the Lakeville North/Roseville tilt in round two, Woodbury is at Prior Lake, Eastview is at Mounds View and Rosemount is at Stillwater in the crossover games between Sections three and four. The crossover games in Sections five and six are Blaine at Edina, Champlin Park at Wayzata, Minnetonka at Maple Grove and Eden Prairie at Osseo.
