Cougars fall at Bloomington Kennedy to drop into three-way tie atop conference standings.

The Lakeville South boys basketball team lost a critical road game in Bloomington to fall into a three-way tie in the South Suburban Conference on a big night for hoops on Tuesday evening that saw all four of the town's squads on the court.

South Boys Basketball: Bloomington Kennedy 63, Cougars 58

A determined Bloomington Kennedy squad put the squeeze on the Lakeville South boys basketball team and defeated the Cougars, 63-58, in a game of severe consequence in the race for the conference crown.

South's Alex Richter led all scorers with 19 points on the night, with teammates Jon Christensen and Mitchell Leidner logging 15 and 10 points, respectively, but the Cougars could not get over the hump against the Eagles.

The loss dropped South to 17-6 overall and created a three-way tie for the top spot with Eastview and Eagan, with all three squads tied at 12-3 in conference play.

Yet, the Cougars control their destiny in the battle for the inaugural South Suburban championship as they play both teams in the final two games of the regular season — traveling to Eastview on Friday night before hosting Eagan next Tuesday.

Both matchups start at 7:15 p.m. and if South wins both, it wins the conference.

North Girls Basketball: Panthers 75, Bloomington Jefferson 66

A 75-66 win at Bloomington Jefferson kept the Lakeville North girls basketball team perfect in the South Suburban at 17-0 in conference play and upped the Panthers' overall record to 23-2 on the year.

Rachel Banham led all scorers with 21 points, while North teammates Apiew Ojulu and Jaya Perkins recorded 16 and 12 points, respectively.

The Panthers host Apple Valley in its final regular-season contest on Friday night at 7:15 p.m.

North Boys Basketball: Panthers 56, Bloomington Jefferson 51

The Lakeville North boys basketball team remained in a sixth-place tie in the South Suburban standings with a 56-51 home win against Bloomington Jefferson.

Adam Peterson tied for the game high in scoring with 21 points as the Panthers improved to 10-13 overall and 8-7 in the conference with the victory.

North goes on the road for its final two regular-season games with 7:15 p.m. matchups at Apple Valley on Friday night and at Rosemount next Tuesday.

South Girls Basketball: Bloomington Kennedy 73, Cougars 43

The Lakeville South girls basketball team fell to 1-21 overall and 0-17 in the South Suburban with a 73-43 home loss to Bloomington Kennedy.

Maddie Turbes led the Cougars with 12 points as the team now looks towards a regular-season finale at home against Eastview at 7:15 p.m. Friday night.
