Lakeville South Girls Lacrosse Fall to Eagan/Rosemount

Cougars have tough time getting offense untracked in 15-6 regular season finale girls lacrosse loss to host Eagan/Rosemount

Eagan/Rosemount and Lakeville South came into Friday’s regular season finale at Eagan tied in the South Suburban girls lacrosse standings at 5-6. But the Wild Irish girls ran away and dominated the visiting Cougars 16-5 on a drizzly evening.

Eagan raced out to a 7-0 lead and led 7-1 at the break. The Wild Irish girls didn’t slack off after halftime and pushed their advantage first to 11-1 by scoring the first four goals of the second half, and then made it 15-2 with 10:37 to play.

The Cougars matched the Wild Irish girls the rest of the way, but were in too deep a hole to close the gap.

Lakeville South fell to 5-7 overall.

Lakeville South got scores from Brooke Galle, Hannah Brown, Courtney Backstrom, Abby Quinnell and Logan Halvorson.

“It was a hard-fought game,” said Lakeville South coach Meagan Gaudette. “Both sides played well. It was a good game going into sections. Good practice for first game next Monday.

“I was happy with the second half when the girls became more supportive of each other,” added Gaudette. “We just need to pick it up and learn how to play better in the rain I guess.”

The regular season is in the books for both teams. Section play starts next week.
