Lakeville South Girls Cross Country Team Wins Section 1AA Championship

Lakeville South's Kaytlyn finished the meet in first place while a Lakeville North runner finished in second place.

The Lakeville South girls cross country team won the section 1AA championship in Owatonna on Thursday. 

Kaytlyn Larson, a junior, finished in first place with a time of 14:25.8. Two other runners finished in the top ten. Sophomore Julia Durham finished in ninth place at 15:07.5 and senior Erin Kilbride finished in 10th place with a time of 15:08.1.

Following closely behind were Annie Brekken, junior, who finished in 11th place with a time of 15:16.9 and Patty Jo English, an 8th grader, who finished in 13th place with a time of 15:17.4.

"I am very proud of all my teammate's efforts, their hard work and dedication during all of our practices this summer and throughout the fall," the team reported Larson as saying. "I look forward to our opportunity to compete in the state meet against the best competition in Minnesota." 

Lakeville South ended the race with 44 points and the team will go to state, which will be Nov. 2 at St. Olaf College

Lakeville North girls cross country finished in second place. The team finished with 85 points and will also go to the state competition.

On the Lakeville North team, 8th grader Daniella Bellino, finished in second place with a time of 14:36.2. The next placing runner on the team was Courtney Earle, junior, who finished in 19th place with a time of 15:17.7.

The Lakeville South boys cross country team finished in ninth place overall with 205 points. Two runners qualified for state: senior Wali Ibrahim, who finished in 16:15.4, and junior Noah Hanson who finished in 16:21.6.

The Lakeville North boys cross country team finished in second place and qualified for state. They finished with 91 points, just one point behind the first place Red Wing team. The top runner on the team was Justin Hanson, junior, who finished in eighth place with a time of 16:20.3.

The boys state cross country meet will also be Nov. 2 at St. Olaf College.
