Each week Lakeville's Parks and Recreation Department offers classes and programs for Lakeville residents to take part in. Here's a list of upcoming events.

Bird Banding

Join naturalist, Mark Newstrom and Roger Everhart for an up-close and personal look at wild birds on Sun., Sept. 11 and/or Sept. 18 from 9 a.m.–noon at Ritter Farm Park,19300 Ritter Trail, Lakeville. It’s a great way for families to learn about birds. $2/perperson 10 & older and free for children under 10.
Firearms Safety Course - Gun Safety

The Dakota County Gun Club will sponsor a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Certified Firearms Safety Course in Lakeville. Participants need to be atleast 11 years or older by September 6, 2011. Classes will be held on September 6, 7,12, 13, 15 & 20 in the evenings from 6–8:30 p.m., at the McGuire Middle School, 21220 Holyoke Ave. W. and the range day field test will be on Sat., September 17 from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the Dakota County Gun Club, 17501 Station Trail, Rosemount. Mandatoryparticipation, all students are required to attend, no exceptions. This course will focuson hunter education, safety and ethics, and safe firearms handling and storage. All students passing this course will receive a firearm safety permit from the DNR.Registration is required through the City of Lakeville Parks and Recreation Departmentonly. Participants must provide accurate birth certificate information upon registeringfor the class. Accuracy of this information will be the responsibility of the participantor parent/guardian for minors. Parent/guardian must accompany minors to the first class. There is a $7.50 Parks & Recreation registration fee per/student with an additional $7.50 paid to DNR at completion of the course. This event is sponsored by Lakeville Parks and Recreation Department and Dakota County Gun Club.
Who Done It Hike
All ages are welcome. Play Sherlock Holmes by collecting clues, gathering informationand solving mysteries, while walking the trails at Ritter Farm Park in Lakeville, 19300Ritter Trail on Sat., Sept. 10. Registration starting at 9:30 a.m. and the mystery hike starting at 10 a.m. Cost is FREE and pre-registration is not necessary. Pack a picnic for your family to enjoy after the hike.
Adult Dance Classes - East Coast Swing, Foxtrot, and Waltz
Ages 17 and older. These three dances work for any music event such as rock & roll, country, ballroom, weddings and parties. Fridays, Sept. 16, 23, 30, Oct. 14 & 28. East Coast Swing – 6:30-7:30 p.m., Foxtrot – 7:45-8:45 p.m., Waltz – 9-10 p.m. $58 per couple/per session.
Nordic Walking Thru the Woods
Ages 16 and older. Walk with Nordic Walking poles through the woods at Ritter Farm Park, 19300 Ritter Trail on Mon., Sept. 12 from 6:15-7:30 p.m. Cost $15
3rd Annual Pedal the Parks

Lynch Fall Tennis
For ages 5-12. In a fun, energetic atmosphere your child will learn or improve upon stroke production, strategies of the game and enjoy the fun of competition. Saturdays,Sept. 10, 17, 24 & Oct. 1. Ages 5-7, 9-10 a.m., $50. Ages 8-12, 10-11:30 a.m., $70. Camp will be held at Century Middle School, 18610 Ipava Ave., Lakeville.
Lynch Flag Football
For ages 6-9. The first half we will work on football fundamentals such as receiving,passing, running, plays and drills. Then we’ll put our skills into action with a competitivegame of flag football. Sundays, Sept. 11, 18, 25 & Oct. 2 from 1-3 p.m. Camp will be held at Dakota Heights Park, 9550 175th St. W., Lakeville. $79
Learn to Skate Program
Indoor skating lessons for ages 3-adult. One hour lessons are held on Tuesday mornings and afternoons, Oct. 25-Dec. 13 and on Saturday mornings, Oct. 22-Dec.17(no lessons on 11/26). Several skating level times are offered. Lessons are held at Hasse Arena, 8525 215th St., Lakeville. $89/session and $125/P.A.L.S.level.
Learn to Skate Open House
A kick-off to 2011-2012 season of skating lessons. Learn to Skate staff will be there togive tips and answer any questions you may have about lessons or email the director at learntoskate@charter.net.
