Lakeville North Drops 6-1 Decision to Burnsville in District Semifinals

Top-ranked Burnsville topped Lakeville North in the semifinals of the American Legion Baseball Tournament Third District semifinals; Panthers remain in the hunt for a state berth

Top-ranked Burnsville used pitching and defense to down Lakeville North 6-1 at Alimagnet Park in Friday's Third District American Legion baseball semifinals.

The Cobras will play No. 3 Eastview for the District 3 championship Saturday at 1 p.m. at Alimagnet Park. Eastview defeated Stillwater 9-2 in Friday's other semifinal.

No. 13 seeded Lakeville North knocked off fourth-seeded Chanhassen 10-0 and fifth-seeded Eagan 10-5 to advance to the semifinals.

Lakeville North is still alive in the double elimination tournament, but can't lose another game. The Panthers were scheduled to play Northfield Saturday morning.

Burnsville broke open a pitcher's duel with three runs in the top of the sixth inning.

The top three teams from District 3 advance to the 2011 85th Annual Minnesota Division I State Tournament, which will be hosted by Eden Prairie July 29 through Aug. 1.
