Lakeville North Beats Moorhead, 2-1, in Consolation Game

Charlie Lindgren makes 37 saves for the Panthers, and Gordon Kappers' two goals lifts North into consolation finals.

The Lakeville North boys hockey team ended its winless drought at the state tournament Friday, beating Moorhead 2-1 in the Class AA consolation semifinals at Mariucci Arena.

North will play White Bear Lake in the consolation championship on Saturday. Game is set for noon at Mariucci Arena.

The Panthers (14-15-1) picked up a 1-0 lead when Gordon Kappers found the net 41 seconds into the second period. North held the one-goal lead until Moorhead’s Brendan Johnson tied the game 2:29 into the third.

Kappers picked up his second goal with 8:08 left in the game, and it proved to be the game-winner. Blake Winiecki and Charlie Hayes assisted on the power-play strike.

The Panthers had eight shots on goal in the game but managed to pick up the win. North goalie Charlie Lindgren steered away 37 shots in the game.
