Ranked fourth in Class 5A, experienced Cougars to open with "home" game against Eagan.

PLAYMAKERS

  • Drew Bauer (Eagan - Quarterback)

Drew proved he can lead the Wildcats when taking over for an injured Jameson Parsons last season, completing 30 of 54 passes and four scores in a run-first offense.

  • Mitch Knutson (Eagan - Linebacker)

Mitch is the top returning tackler for the Wildcats. Drastically improving throughout the year, he had 25 solos, 44 assists and 1 ½ tackles for a loss in 2010.

  • Mitch Leidner (Lakeville South - Quarterback)

The University of Minnesota recruit threw for nearly 2,100 yards last season and has his two top receivers back in Matt Heller and Devon Bzoskie.

  • Brandon Meek (Lakeville South - Linebacker)

Brandon had 45 solo tackles last year, including a team-leading 16 for a loss. He also had 5 ½ sacks.

WILDCATS WIN IF ...

Eagan will need to play mistake-free football to knock off the fourth-ranked Cougars. Bauer will need to lead the Wildcats on some time-consuming drives to keep South’s offense of the field.

COUGARS WIN IF ...

Leidner and company are able to take advantage of Eagan’s untested secondary, and the Lakeville South defenders can force the Wildcats into passing situations.

SITE: Lakeville North High School (South's home field has been deemed unplayable)

TIME: 7 p.m. Friday

WEATHER: Cloudy, 75 degrees with chance of rain

LAST MEETING: Lakeville South won 28-20 last year in week one at Eagan, but the Wildcats upset the Cougars 37-36 with a late 2-point conversion two years ago.
