David and Goliath? Try Green Gators vs. Lakeville North in Soccer

Find out how they played to a tie at Michaud Park.

(The post was contributed by Brian Thompson.)

From the parents of the Green Gators, we’d like to thank the Boys Soccer team of Lakeville North. Six members of the squad participated in a full scrimmage against eight six-year-old boys at Michaud Park Wednesday night, August 28.  They played four intense eight minute quarters and the kids loved every minute of it.

The Green Gators took a commanding lead in the first quarter with four goals.  But the varsity squad fired right back. Throughout the three quarters, it was a back and forth scoring fest with the Green Gators comfortably ahead by two goals.  The final quarter started at 9-7. The varsity team scored quickly and the pressure was on. As the minutes wound down, the varsity team was leading 10-9. The Green Gators had one last chance. A successful break away with 20 seconds left tied the game at 10-10. With joy and disappointment, the kids were thrilled that they could play against the varsity squad.

We are so grateful to have these young adults volunteer their time. It will be a memory that our kids will cherish for a long time. The squad played amazing with them. Some trick shots here, some acting along the way, and sharing words of encouragement as they challenged each other for the ball.

Thank you Mr. Tyma for helping coordinate this special event. And a big thank you to the squad who dressed in soccer uniform: Oscar, Jorge, Eujune, Brian, Isaac, and Josh. What great ambassadors of Lakeville Soccer. Watch out, some future ambassadors in the making … Chomp, Chomp, Chomp!
