Lakeville South Students Head to State Debate Tournament

The Lakeville Area Public School students will compete in the tournament this weekend.

Three Lakeville South High School students will compete in the 113th state debate tournament at the University of Minnesota Jan. 17 and 18.

There are three categories, the Policy Debate, the Lincoln-Douglas Debate and the Public Forum Debate.

Lakeville South students qualified for two of the debates. Competing in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate is Dylan Adelman. The topic for this year's Lincoln-Douglas Debate is: “Resolved: Developing countries should prioritize environmental protection over resource extraction when the two are in conflict.”

The Public Forum Debate is a team competition. Students Margaret Gadek and Logan Roberts will compete in this debate as a team. The topic of this debate is: "Resolved: Development assistance should be prioritized over military aid in the Sahel region of Africa.”

The state debate is the longest running Minnesota State High School League event. It is free and open and to the public.
