Lakeville South High School to Host First Job Fair on May 22

In other District 194 news, Lakeville South students will pack meals for Feed My Starving Children and reading tutors are being sought in the district.

Lakeville South will be hosting its first-ever job fair on Wednesday, May 22, from 3 to 6 pm in the Commons.

Run by students in collaboration with the Lakeville Chamber of Commerce and the Lakeville Business Education Committee, this job fair is bringing together a diverse range of local employers, all of whom seek to actively hire high school students. Companies such as AllState, Anchor Bank, Home Depot, Finish Line, and McDonalds, along with many others, will be present at this fair, ensuring that students have access to a wide selection of potential employment opportunities.

This will be the first job fair designed specifically for high school students in Lakeville's history, and all students in Lakeville and surrounding school districts are welcome and encouraged to attend. LAKEVILLE SOUTH STUDENTS TO PACK MEALS

On May 10, hundreds of Lakeville and South Metro community members will work to feed thousands of starving children in the developing world. Through a partnership between the Lakeville South High School National Honor Society and Twin Cities-based Feed My Starving Children, volunteers will prepare 114,000 life-saving meals at an FMSC MobilePack event. The MobilePack will take place on May 10,2013 with two available volunteer shifts- one from 3-5 PM and one from 6-8 PM at Lakeville South High School.

Community members can support this MobilePack by making a donation or by volunteering to package food at the event. Donations may be given at any time, and volunteer registration is currently open. To learn more, visit www.fundraising.fmsc.org/LakevilleSouthMobilePackMN.

BECOME A MINNESOTA READING CORPS LITERACY TUTOR

You’re ready for growth. Whether you’re looking to explore a new career in education, reenter the workforce or simply want to work with kids, you’re ready. So what are you waiting for? Become a Minnesota Reading Corps literacy tutor at many of Lakeville’s elementary schools and start creating meaningful growth. Full-time and part-time Literacy Tutor positions are available.

Minnesota Reading Corps, the country’s largest state AmeriCorps program, will train and place over 1,000 literacy tutors in schools across the state. These tutors provide research-based strategies, monitor progress and ultimately, guide struggling students toward becoming successful readers by the end of third grade. They are seeing real results and catching kids up to their peers. All while building valuable professional experience. It’s a chance to explore life in our school and create growth– both in your life and a young child’s life.

LAKEVILLE SOUTH NINTH-GRADE INFORMATION NIGHT IS MAY 20

An information night for incoming ninth-graders at Lakeville South High School and their parents is scheduled for Monday, May 20, at the Lakeville South auditorium.

A Power Point presentation containing school information will be presented at 6 and 7 p.m., and tentative 2013-14 schedules will be distributed at 6:40 and 7:40 p.m.

Lakeville North is proud to announce the 2013 Hall of Fame Inductees who will be honored on July 14th at the annual banquet at Crystal Lake Golf Course at 4:30 pm.

STATE OF THE SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS PLANNED FOR JUNE 3

The 2013 State of the Schools will be held on Monday, June 3 at 6:30pm at the Crystal Lake Education Center, 16250 Ipava Ave.

Parents and community members will hear a 25 minute presentation about the school district followed by 25 minutes for questions and answers.
