Lakeville Area Public Schools Close Another Day

Tuesday's weather appears to be "worse" than Monday's weather, Superintendent Dr. Lisa Snyder wrote to district parents.

With wind chill values expected to be around 40 below, the Lakeville Area Public School District has canceled school on Tuesday.

Afternoon activities will occur as scheduled as temperatures are expected to rise after 12 p.m., which is when the wind chill warning ends.

This will be the fifth day Lakeville students, and many Minnesota students, will be out of school. One proposal for a make-up day is President's Day on Feb. 17 and March. 28, Superintendent Dr. Lisa Snyder wrote in a letter to district families. Options will be present to the school board at the Jan. 28 school board meeting.

The following letter from Snyder is on the district's website

Dear Families:

Tomorrow's forecast is currently -42 windchill throughout the morning with the warnings lifted by noon when temperatures are expected to rise to -10 with -27 degree windchill. It is actually a bit worse than today's weather. It is unfortunate that this is occurring.

As a result, Lakeville Area Public Schools will not be in session tomorrow, January 28, 2014. A plan for making up the days will be presented to the Board of Education on Tuesday at the board meeting. The current proposal calls for students and staff attending school on President's Day which is February 17th and on March 28, 2014. In addition, a 3rd and 4th make-up option will be presented in the event there are more weather-related closures.

Afternoon and evening activities will still be held tomorrow. Student Recognition and the Board of Education meeting will be held as well. Please see the schools' websites for details.

I want to thank all of the parents who provided input on this issue.

Dr. Lisa Snyder
