District 196 Cancels School on Tuesday

With temperatures forecast to remain dangerously cold Tuesday, the district has decided to cancel school.

The Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District has opted to remain closed on Tuesday due to the severe cold.

The Monday night low is forecast at 20 below and Tuesday’s high is 1 below.

Gov. Mark Dayton closed all Minnesota public schools on Monday due to the dangerously cold temperatures. District 196 as well as other Eagan area districts also canceled all activities and community education programs on Monday.

District 196 is in the process of making a decision about activities and community education programs on Tuesday.

A wind chill warning is in effect until 12 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7.

UPDATE 12:50 p.m. Monday

The school district has posted the following message on its website

"School will be canceled on Tuesday, January 7, due to the dangerously cold temperatures that are forecasted to continue through Tuesday morning. The only activities that will be held on January 7 are high school after-school and evening activities, and Community Education evening activities. These activities will be held as scheduled because temperatures are forecasted to increase significantly by Tuesday afternoon."
