Street Projects Could Get Green Light on Monday

The Lakeville City Council is expected to vote on the projects at its Monday night meeting.

Two street projects could get a green light from the Lakeville City Council at its regular meeting on Monday night.

Listed among the items on the council’s consent agenda are resolutions to award construction contracts for replacement of a bridge on 168th Street and for a roundabout at 205th Street and Kenrick Avenue.

The low bid for the bridge project came in from Redstone Construction at $308,586, which is $68,586 higher than the original engineer’s estimated cost. The other bid, submitted by Lunda Construction, was for $479,722.

Most of the project’s cost would be paid for with a $282,926 State Aid Bridge Bonds Funds grant. The city is required to cover $25,660 in matching funds, which would come from funds assessed as part of 2012 street construction.

ROUNDABOUT

The low bid for the roundabout came in more than $90,000 lower than the engineer’s estimate. Minnesota Dirt Works Inc. submitted a bid of $401,502.75, which was below the engineer’s estimate of $492,428.60.

Two other bids were submitted: Chard Tiling & Excavating, at $474,995.35; and McNamara Contracting, $659,955.18.

OTHER ITEMS ON THE AGENDA

Among the other items on the City Council’s agenda include:

• Ordinance to the Lakeville City Code that would require annual renewal of tobacco sales licenses, rather than a two-year renewal. The cost of the license fee would be cut in half, from $600 to $300.

License holders would “benefit by reviewing their best practices program participation with the Police Department on an annual basis,” according to a memo in the meeting packet. “It is hoped that this will increase awareness and help to eliminate the sales of tobacco to youth.”

• Introduction of Officer Andy Hentges, School Resource Officer of the Year.

• Resolutions to approve final plats for Autumn Meadows Second Addition and Tullamore Third Addition.

• Agreement for contract electrical inspection services.
