Readers React to Kline and Obermueller Statements on Government Shutdown

Rep. John Kline said his vote to delay Obamacare was about "fairness" while Obermueller called it "political games."

Ahead of the government shutdown on Tuesday, U.S. Representative John Kline (R-MN) and Mike Obermueller, who plans a run for Kline's seat in 2014, released statements regarding the shutdown.

Kline focused on the "fairness" of delaying Obamacare for one year while Obermueller called on Kline and others to stop the "political games."

Patch asked Lakeville readers if they thought the shutdown was about fairness or political games. Readers responded on Twitter, Facebook and in comments.

Some Lakeville readers agreed that delaying Obamacare is about fairness.

Chris B. disagreed, saying in part: "Its not fair!" Is what we should expect from toddlers, not our elected representatives.

Comments

Colin: I'm appalled that Congressman Kline was so pleased to vote in favor of shutting down our government with his 30-40 extreme radical friends on the lunatic fringe of Congress. It is his job to implement legislation or to amend it. Compromise is not about demanding complete surrender. He cannot extract a ransom simply for refusing to do his job.

Tank: Great job! A poor law is a poor law and the job of congress not to fund and pay for this boondoggle that will bankrupt the country. Mr President please get back to the negotiation table and grow up. Tank.

Kline's office has since released a timeline about "Senate's refusal to compromise."

Said Obermueller, “After Congressman Kline irresponsibly and recklessly put the economy at risk to advance his political agenda, the voters deserve to know whether the Congressman is ready to do the job he is still getting paid for and end this shutdown.”

According to WCCO, Kline has asked his pay to be withheld during the shutdown.
