Lakeville Selects New Parks and Recreation Director

Brett Altergott was selected to replace Steve Michaud, who had been Lakeville's only Parks and Recreation Director, who retired in July after serving 40 years in the position.

Lakeville has selected a replacement for an icon.

Brett Altergott, the current Parks and Recreation Director for the city of Germantown, WI, has been selected to fill the same position for the city of Lakeville.

Altergott fills the position vacated by Steve Michaud who retired in July of this year. The Parks and Recreation Director is responsible for the planning and coordination of activities of the City’s parks and recreation programs and facilities including the Lakeville Area Arts Center and the Heritage Center.

Altergott was selected after a national search that yielded over 80 applicants. Brett holds a bachelor’s degree in recreation management and a master’s degree in recreation administration. He is a certified recreation and parks professional as well as a certified playground safety inspector. 

“Brett’s background and experience in the parks and recreation field as well as his passion and enthusiasm for sports and leisure activities make him a great fit for the position” said Steven Mielke, Lakeville's city administrator. Altergott has worked for the city of Germantown since 2005. Previous employment includes service as a recreation supervisor for the cities of Greenfield, Wisconsin, and Munster, Indiana.
