Lakeville's David Bares Announces Run for City Council

Incumbent Council Members Laurie Rieb and Kerrin Swecker are both up for re-election this fall.

David Bares, a Lakeville resident, small business owner, and board member on Lakeville's Rotary Club, announced yesterday his intention to run for a seat on the City Council this fall.

Council members Laurie Rieb and Kerrin Swecker are up for re-election in November with their four-year terms set to expire on Dec. 31.

“I'm running because I want to assure that we have a successful Lakeville today and lay the groundwork for an even stronger city in years to come," Bares said in a statement.

Bares has lived in Lakeville since 2000 with his wife and three children, his statement said.

He says his main areas of focus will include building a stronger business climate, creating a more efficient delivery of city services, and offering wise stewardship of taxpayer dollars.

"I look forward to visiting with Lakeville residents throughout the year and will be knocking on virtually every door in Lakeville to hear ideas and better understand how those ideas can contribute to making this a greater city," Bares said.

Bares owns and manages Bares Executive Search, LLC, a search firm that recruits executives for Minnesota companies. Before that, Bares said he spent 15 years in the recruiting business including positions at Robert Half International, LarsonAllen Search, Korn Ferry International and Best Buy.

He's a graduate of Cretin High School (St. Paul), the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul) with a degree in history and communication, and a law degree from William Mitchell College of Law.

Around town, Bares is active with the Boy Scouts of America, the Lakeville Rotary Club, and Lakeville Chamber of Commerce.
