Cedar Construction: Paving Between 140th, 150th Slated for This Week

Week of July 30

• 138th Street east of Cedar Avenue is closed through 6 p.m. and will then remain unpaved for several weeks

• Work on Glendale Court (east of Cedar between 138th and Upper 139th) is scheduled to start on Monday, as well. The road will be closed during the day and open at night for about a week, and then will remain unpaved for several weeks.

• Milling and paving is scheduled to take place this week on Cedar between 150th and 140th streets, in both directions. Major delays are expected, according to Dakota County.

• The business entrance on the east side of Cedar, north of 147th (next to ) is slated to close permanently on Tuesday, July 31.

• Traffic lights will be flashing red for all-way stops along Cedar between 157th and 164th at various times during the week.

Future Work

• Aug. 6: The Minnesota Department of Transportation is slated to start $7.5 million of work on Cedar Avenue from 138th Street in Apple Valley up to the Minnesota River in Bloomington, to smooth the road, and improve drainage and . The work is slated to continue through Oct. 11, according to MnDOT. Read more here. In the long term, the state is looking at ways to relieve future congestion along this stretch of road.

• Aug. 6: Lane closures on Cedar are slated to switch to the inside lanes in both directions.

• Aug. 10: Cedar is scheduled to close between 138th and McAndrews Road from 10 p.m. until 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11.

Construction on Cedar . The county project to accommodate a bus rapid transit system, a station-to-station line that would have buses running from Lakeville to a park-and-ride near the Mall of America and back every 15 minutes during the week.

The goal of bus rapid transit, which also is recommended or planned for other corridors besides Cedar, is to better and more quickly connect the southern suburbs with Minneapolis and St. Paul.

It was announced this spring that the original November 2012 launch date would be pushed back to at least 2013 due to discrepancies over bus station designs.

Dakota County has since OK'd the city of Apple Valley's plan over Cedar Avenue if officials feel the funds are in place.
