Woman Accused of Writing 'I Quit' on Tea Boxes Now Charged With Crime

Lisa Marie Dolezal is charged with first-degree criminal damage to property of Lakeville business.

A New Prague woman has been charged with criminal damage to property after authorities say she intentionally put the wrong codes on food containers at the Lakeville company where she worked.

Lisa Marie Dolezal, 28, is charged with one count of first-degree criminal damage to property, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint against her, Dolezal became upset last August when she learned that the hours for Ryt-way Industries in Lakeville were changing.

Before her scheduled shift ended, she improperly coded numerous containers for chai tea by putting the words “I quit” on the boxes rather than the correct codes, the complaint says.

The incorrect codes were discovered by an incoming line worker, who told a manager about them. The loss of the chai tea cartons that had to be thrown away because of improper coding, and the cost to repackage the tea, came to $921.

Ryt-way officials told authorities that the pouches with the new containers also had to be pulled and inspected after the improper codes were discovered, which cost $2,200.

The total loss to Ryt-way was $3,121, the complaint says.

When Lakeville police contacted Dolezal, she admitted recoding the tea boxes to say “I quit,” according to the complaint. “[Dolezal] stated that what she did was foolish, and it was her intent to repay the costs,” the complaint says.

Dolezal is scheduled to make a first appearance on the charge July 11 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
