UPDATE: Snow Dumps 11.6 Inches Thus Far on Lakeville, Another Inch Expected

Forecasters called for a foot in Lakeville, and they were pretty close.

According to the National Weather Service, Lakeville received 11.6 inches of snow as of 10:30 p.m. yesterday.

The NWS says this winter is officially the second snowiest winter ever, with 72.9-inches having fallen thus far. Only the 1982 winter and its 76-inches of snow beat this one, and we have a ways to go.

Many of Lakeville's roadways are clear as of 10 a.m. Monday, and while the city offices are closed for President's Day, public works crews will be busy cleaning up all day today.

Update: 10:36 a.m., Sunday

A massive snowstorm the National Weather Service has been forecasting to dump several inches of snow over Lakeville is gaining strength and slowing down, and the result will be more snow for the area than forecast yesterday.

A foot of snow is expected to fall over Lakeville, with a chance that as much as 17-inches could blanket the metro area, matching the totals from the December blizzard.

As the storm slows down—that's why it didn't begin snowing in Lakeville until nearly 10 a.m.—it's also gaining strength. It's expected that the heaviest bands of snow will setup right over the Twin Cities and drop 1-2 inches per hour through the day. Reports of thundersnow have even been reported in southern Minnesota.

As much as 10 inches of fall could fall throughout Sunday with another 5 inches in the evening, the NWS reports. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for much of Minnesota, northern Iowa and nearly all of Wisconsin and lasts until Monday.

More than 700 flights have been cancelled at the MSP International Airport.

Western Minnesota is currently under a blizzard warning. As the storm moves toward Lakeville, the blizzard warning will follow, officials say.

The heavy snowfall and gusts as high as 31 mph will make driving conditions undesireable and officials are asking people to stay home.

Spring's not here yet.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Lakeville and south and central Minnesota including all of the metro area.

Snow isn't expected to start falling until late Saturday, but the storm is predicted to stick around until early Monday morning—intensifying throughout Sunday—and leave behind 10 or more inches of snow in Lakeville.

Wind gusts could reach 26 mph, the NWS reports.

Officials advise against travel in the expected conditions. For those who travel, plan to allow for extra time and bring with food, water and a flashlight.
