Safely Remove Ashes from Fireplace: Lakeville Fire Prevention

The Lakeville Fire Department includes the tips in its weekly call report.

Allowing ashes to cool for 24 hours before putting them into a container can help prevent a house fire, according to the Lakeville Fire Department.

After allowing time for ashes to cool, they should be placed in a "metal container with a tight lid and stored outside," advices the fire department. Hot ashes placed in combustible containers can cause a house fire.
