A Richfield man has been charged with making terroristic threats after authorities say he threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend in Lakeville and slit her new boyfriend’s throat.

Michael Ray Aldrich, 56, faces a felony charge, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, Lakeville police were called to the victim’s home just before 11 p.m. Thursday. The victim reported that she had been receiving threatening calls and text messages from Aldrich, and that he had threatened to kill her and slit her new boyfriend’s throat.

Aldrich told the victim that he was just down the street and could see her, the complaint says. While officers were en route to the victim’s house, she reported that he had called her again; when she told him she had called the police, he said he would “take them all out.”

The victim told police that she receives almost 75 text messages a day from Aldrich, most of them telling her that he wants to see her or talk to her on the phone. She said his messages became increasingly threatening on Thursday, and that he told her during a phone call that night that he was going to kill her and her new boyfriend.

In one of Aldrich’s text messages, he asked the victim if her boyfriend knew what “I shoot – I kill” meant, the complaint says.

Aldrich was arrested Friday and remained in the Dakota County Jail in Hastings on a $10,000 bond on Monday. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled for Aug. 22 in Dakota County District Court in Hastings.
