Police: ‘Uzi-Type Gun’ Pulled on Lakeville Man

A Northfield teen allegedly pulled a gun that looked like an Uzi on a Lakeville man on April 23. Now he and his passenger, a Lakeville teen, are facing felony charges.

A Lakeville man got more than he bargained for when he challenged two other men to a race following a confrontation near Lakeville’s McStop on April 23. The Lakeville man had what police say was an "Uzi-type gun" drawn on him.

And now Adam Joseph Pena, 19, of Northfield, and his passenger, David Michael Johnson, 18, of Lakeville, are each facing a felony charge of making terroristic threats in connection with the incident.

According to a criminal complaint, the unidentified victim told police he had been involved in a confrontation with two men outside the Holiday gas station at County Road 70 and Interstate 35 at around 10 p.m. that night.

In the heat of the exchange, the victim told police he challenged the two men, identified by Lakeville Police as Pena and Johnson, to a race. After making the challenge, Johnson is alleged to have formed the shape of a gun with his had, pointed it at the victim and said, “I’ll cap your f***ing ass.”

It was then that Pena, who was driving the vehicle, exited, and grabbed a gun case, the complaint says. The victim said that Pena opened the case, pulled out the black “Uzi-like gun” loaded it and then stood there without pointing it at him.

Pena and Johnson then left the scene after telling the victim they’d return in 20 minutes. Shortly thereafter, police responded to a 911 call, and located Pena’s vehicle nearby, the complaint said. When officers conducted a probable cause traffic stop, the officer observed the blue gun case in plain view.

Initially, Pena denied exiting his vehicle with the gun, but when told witnesses saw him, he admitted to exiting the vehicle but denied grabbing the gun.

All told, Pena is facing six charges, the most serious being a felony charge of making terroristic threats. The other five charges include misdemeanor counts of harassment and driving with a suspended license.

Pena had his first court hearing on April 26, and his omnibus hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on May 23 in Dakota County Court. He’s being held in Dakota County Jail and bail is set for $100,000 without conditions or $75,000 with conditions.

Johnson is facing one count of felony charge of making terroristic threats. His omnibus court hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. on May 16. He is being held in lieu of $20,000 bail without conditions, or $10,000 bail with conditions.
